something. Frankly, if they've got anything good on him that doesn't come out before the nomination, they'll save it for AFTER he's on the ticket (top or bottom, doesn't matter). And THAT could lose the whole election.
Therefore, we actually want everything out on all the candidates before that time comes. I know it's painful, we Dean supporters have been putting up with for months now, and the Kerry and Kucinich supporters would say the same.
But you do NOT want Rove coming up with anything substantive once the ticket is in place, no matter who it is. Trust me, you don't.
Now, would they rather prevent the "good" candidates from even getting on the ticket? Sure. And they're likely to make sure certain stuff gets known before the primaries or even during the primaries. But if it's already known, it loses its steam -- esp. if it's essentially been overcome or dealt with, or even if the candidate has been able to figure out his response.
Disinformation is another matter entirely, and your advice on that is spot on. I see a lot of it here, coming mostly against Dean from Kerry supporters whom I'd gladly name were it not for DU rules. (But ya'll know exactly who I'm talking about.)
In the meantime, and it took me until yesterday to really "get it," tho other DUers have said it, getting the bad stuff out actually does serve a positive purpose.
