Craig Crawford; A White House Corespondent Speaks Out
For those of you that don't know, Craig Crawford is the White House columnist for Congressional Quarterly who, like MoDo, has been refused his WH press pass since the sElection of '04, perhaps the topic of his new book schedualed for release in Sept has something to do with that. Crawford is also an occasional contributor to KO's Countdown, who last night was one of the very few voices of the media to speak the truth about the Newsweek story.

The name of Crawford's book is; ATTACK THE MESSENGER: How Politicians Turn You Against The Media

http://www.attackthemessenger.com/index.html

I saw Crawford on slImus this morning, and as you may know Imus has been pushing HARD the WH spin on the Newsweek story. On previous shows, Imus has said how much he likes Crawford, but this morning, right before introducing CC, Imus called him "half a Liberal pussy", I'm sure as a response to Crawford's appearence & comments on KO last night. The first 1/2 of CC's appearence this a.m. he spent speaking truth to power about the Newsweek story, not an easy task when in the den of a WH whore (slImus). The second half of his time they were discussing his book, ATTACK THE MESSENGER: How Politicians Turn You Against The Media, which of course Imus also attacked.

Crawford stated that although the book is not scheduled for release until Sept, amazon has already discounted the book. I can't help but wonder if this isn't an attempt to squelch his book by the powers that be. Here is an excerpt of the discription of his book from the amazon website:

"If the press is not believed--or believable--because politicians have turned the public against it, then the press is not free, but under the thumbs of politicians. Without a free press, there is no democracy. That, says Craig Crawford, is where we find ourselves today. If you don't like the news, attack the messenger, and it will go away. Going, going, gone."

Crawford recognizes that a free press is essential to democracy, and recognizes the danger that we are in; he's one of the good guys. I feel like we should get behind him and support him however we can. I have included links to his book's website and to amazon.com.

than a negative. They discount popular items and the markdown could be based on preorders and wish lists.

I haven't watched Imus in years. I used to listen to him faithfully when I lived in Boston about 12 years ago. Can't stomach his show now.

8. I wish MSNBC would cancel his show.
I can't stand any of the networks' morning shows come to that.
I wouldn't mind having the Countdown from the night before repeated in the 7:00 a.m. time slot. That would work well in my schedule. Think they'd do that just for me? LOL!

11. The morning shows are horrific
especially CNN...whats-her-face...she giggles and acts inappropriately silly like a little kid. I can't watch any of it, but I do admit I turn one of them on for about 20 minutes in the background just to get an idea of what the "top stories of the day" are. They are, of course, never what I think they should be. This morning on CNN, it was Kylie Minogue diagnosed with breast cancer.

I'm with you - a repeat of Olbermann in the AM would be fantastic. Maybe you should start a petition? ;)

12. I actually like CNBC's Squawk Box. It's fun to watch them fight
with each other. They have a new reporter, Rebecca Quick, who I HATE. And Joe Kernen is pretty right-wing. But David Faber seems almost normal at times. And the host Mark Haines seems to act like he thinks everyone in the stock market is corrupt and it is all a big ponsy (spelling?) scheme. I think it's a funny show to watch.

17. Ponzi Scheme.
Here's a website which explains how Charles Ponzi's scheme worked (or didn't work, to be accurate):

7. I didn't know about how amazon works
This is good news

Yes, Imus is requires a barf-bag to listen to, and it is getting worse. AAR has pushed him over the cliff, at least in NY, I hope it catches on.

15. Yes...if a bookseller intends to sell a lot...
they will discount them. It's a retail "loss-leader" strategy in which many customers will purchase more if they get a great deal on the main item they're wanting.

5. The quote about the "discount" may be a joke, since
Amazon discounts ALL its products from the MSRP (Manufacturer's suggested retail price) with only a couple of exceptions in electronics.

6. I saw Crawford on that new Ron Reagan and "that Hoe"'s show
This morning. He was great on that too. "That Hoe" tried to shut him down, but he spoke right through her....and although there were 2 others guests invited (the split 3 way screen), Crawford got most of the time...cause he wouldn't shut up about the facts on the Newsweek story.

He said that the information had been printed by other publications, that this was not a new story, that the Afghans had been rioting BEFORE the story came out, and on and on with the facts that many at DU had already figured out.

He's my new friend until he shows me otherwise...and I have very, very few media friends.

9. I missed it
I usually watch Reagan, he is a great voice for liberalsm and speaking truth to power. Sounds like Crawford gave 'em hell, he is usually not that forceful. I am of the belief that we should be supportive of the very few jounalists who speak truth to power, and like you, until he shows me otherwise, Crawford is one of the good guys.

O'Donnell is the pundit that disappeared after he shouted down that lying swiftboat liar, the lying John O'Neal.

10. Crawford is a very intelligent and informed guy
but doesn't come off too well on tv. I think that takes away from his message (for some).

14. true...
...it's the "Mayberry" way of speaking that is distracting. It isn't just a regional inflection (which would be fine), it's kind of a "goll-ee" quality to his manner.
