TV ratings are taken from random samples of the population who volunteer to have tracking boxes attached to their TVs. If you don't have one attached to your TV, you aren't boosting their ratings.

What if HALF of the viewing audience, Democrats, for instance, STOPPED watching FOX TV ? ...

NOT Fox News Channel, which I already boycott on content, but their flagship entertainment networks ? ...

Could we mae a dent in viewership ? .. Could we hurt them ? ...

5. American Idol is really their only hit...

but it's so big, it holds up the whole network.

The only way you can directly effect ratings is if you are a Nielson home.

6. Their ratings are falling

I don't know if I'd describe it as "free fall" quite yet, but there have been quite a few stories about that, but it may reflect a general decline in news viewership. They're underreporting the war and the stupidity in Washington and overreporting tabloid trash. It seems that those of us who have turned the news off are just the tip of a large and growing iceberg.
