Lucas hopes Star Wars final epic will wake up US to democracy in peril
FINAL STAR WARS BEARS MESSAGE FOR AMERICA:
LUCAS WINS FESTIVAL TROPHY – AND HOPES HIS EPIC WILL AWAKEN US TO DEMOCRACY IN PERIL

The Guardian (5/16/05) Cannes -- The republic is crumbling under attack from alien forces. Democracy is threatened as the leader plays on the people's paranoia. Amid the confusion it is suddenly unclear whether the state is in more danger from insurgents, or from the leader himself.
It sounds more like a Michael Moore polemic than a Star Wars movie. But George Lucas, speaking as his latest epic was given its world premiere at Cannes yesterday, confirmed that Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, could be read as a parable about American politics…

7. Hey, if this is what it takes to wake the sleeping masses in this country,
then I hope it works and more power (force) to it!

Sadly, this country needs to be "entertained" and if a movie like Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith (and the whole series) is what does it, great! We need to wake people and if a fictional futuristic movie does it, right on....

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - Be it MNA Day 4 or 8 or 15 or .... the day will come when 10s of millions of Americans and others stop their typical activities for 24 hours and urge 10 times that many to join should another MNA Day be required. On that glorious day what we once called "America" will emerge.

movie or its message. Even more likely they will be spending their days trying to pay their bills and keep body and soul together like everyone else. Sorry George you are taking yourself a bit too seriously.

4. I do not believe that,
a Star Wars movie is going to convince any of the freepers the evil of their ways. In fact one of my freeper buddies actually thought that Ep III backed up the conservative view.

5. If that's his intent, he did a poor job.
Having Anikin say "If you're not with me, you're my enemy" is just lousy scriptwriting - hamhanded and false.

And if he wanted to shine a light on what is going on in America, he would have had to have skipped Palpatine declaring a "New Empire" and had him continue the charade of democracy while continue to slowly tighten the grip of totalitarianism so slowly that the people don't realize they're being choked until it's already too late.

That's what's happening in America.

Having Palpatine openly declare an undemocratic "Empire" lets right-wingers and dullards rationalize to themselves that this film is nothing like America, because we're "still a democracy".

As long as we call ourselves that, it's true in their minds...

9. Artistic license.... and even if it's all hooey....
If it gets people talking about Bush's lies and looking for the truth it's still good, because when people see what horrible things are being done in their name and how the administration is swindling the average ( under $250,000 a year ) taxpaying American.... that's what is good about it. Lifting the taboo for the rest of America until everyone is out there saying,

" :wtf: I want my country back!! "

8. I hope that the millions of viewers who sees this movie get that message..
Edited on Sat May-21-05 03:06 AM by FrenchieCat
although the Religious Wrong may only pick up the message about the fallen Angel, The rapture and Genesis. The dark force vs. the right force.

Let us just pray that they get that political message too!
