3 separate "white powder in mail" occurances in 2 days?
I posted an article about the first 2 yesterday in LBN and the empty thread sank quicker than shrub's approval ratings....Now there is another episode reported in Oklahoma that happened on Friday--state lawmaker got it in the mail. WTF is happening NOW??? The first 2 were in Iowa and NYC.

http://www.kotv.com/main/home/stories.asp?whichpage=1&id=83590

State hazardous materials investigators were collecting samples of a white powder that was delivered to a state lawmaker Friday.

The powder was discovered in an envelope in an express package delivered in the afternoon to the state Capitol office of Rep. Darrell Gilbert of Tulsa.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma City Fire Department were taking samples of the substance. It was to be tested at the Health Department to determine if the powder was hazardous.

Ventilation throughout the Capitol was turned off as a precaution to ensure any potential hazard was not spread, said Rep. Jari Askin.

A hospital emergency room was locked down for more than two hours after a postal worker came in who had been exposed to a suspicious powder in a letter, officials said.

In New York City, three people prompted a similar response at a Brooklyn hospital after one received white powder in the mail.

Initial tests in Iowa indicated the substance found Thursday at the city's main post office was a mixture of rat poison and wheat flour, fire department spokesman Brian O'Keefe said. The worker, who had come in to Mercy Medical Center around 5 a.m., was checked out and released and the investigation was continuing.

In Brooklyn, three family members went to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center on Thursday night after one of them, a 24-year-old woman, said she had received an envelope containing white powder in her mailbox earlier in the week. She said she later developed flu-like symptoms, including a stuffy nose.

1. Is it a copycat or, worse, an underhanded threat from Bush?
Frankly, nothing would suprise me anymore. I think something's up.

2. Tsk, the old fear levers just aren't working like before.
I guess people still have all that old plastic sheeting
and duct tape sitting around in the garage.

On the other hand, a big "terrorist" attack would look
pretty bad too, after all this time and all that money
pissed down a rathole. And none of the little countries
we try to get to attack us want to take the bait. What
is to be done?

15. Coincidence that it happens right when the FBI/mail rights story emerged?
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/21/politics/21terror.html?ei=5088&en=f5a5049a64051510&ex=1274328000&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print

The F.B.I. would gain broad authority to track the mail of people in terror investigations under a Bush administration proposal, officials said Friday, but the Postal Service is already raising privacy concerns about the plan.

The proposal, to be considered next week in a closed-door meeting of the Senate Intelligence Committee, would allow the bureau to direct postal inspectors to turn over the names, addresses and all other material appearing on the outside of letters sent to or from people connected to foreign intelligence investigations.

The plan would effectively eliminate the postal inspectors' discretion in deciding when so-called mail covers are needed and give sole authority to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, if it determines that the material is "relevant to an authorized investigation to obtain foreign intelligence," according to a draft of the bill.

"The F.B.I. would be able to control its own investigations of terrorists and spies, and the postal service would have to comply with those requests," said an aide to the Intelligence Committee who is involved in the proposal but insisted on anonymity because the proposal remains confidential.

This is so freaky..you know, makes one wonder if shrub's crying wolf has made us all immune to stuff like this happening. 6 occurances yet there have been no reports on it all w/ the national MSM--well guess I should ASK if the nat'l MSM is reporting it since I no longer watch MSM television. Shrub must not see this as helping his agenda or he would have ordered 24/7 coverage.

Declaring it held anthrax, a letter containing white powder addressed to a newspaper editor shut down Midland streets and quarantined the paper's staff Tuesday in a scare that officials now call a hoax.

Police have questioned but released a 22-year-old Midland man who lived at the return address written on the envelope, FBI officials from Bay City said.

Biological screeners at the state Department of Community Health Laboratory in Lansing said late Tuesday the small amount of powder was not the deadly bacteria that killed a Florida paper's photo editor in 2001 and signaled the opening salvo in a nationwide rash of bio-terror anthrax attacks.

Ten people, including Midland Daily News Editor John Telfer, who opened the envelope just before noon Tuesday, received treatment at MidMichigan Regional Medical Center, said city spokeswoman Selina Tisdale. "They are all fine," said Cynthia Chilcote, County Department of Emergency Services deputy director.

April 18, 2005 — Tests are underway to determine the ingredients in a white powder found at the Fresno office of the IRS.

Ten mail-room employees were briefly quarantined and hospitalized after an envelope containing the powder was opened.

The workers complained of itchy, watery eyes and runny noses. The IRS shut down for about 3 three-and-half hours.

This is a large envelope and there was a substance in there and people sit in very close proximity to the work. So basically, we take all the employees within 10 to 20 feet of that incident," says Rebeca Villalobos of the IRS. It's still not known what that white powder really was.

19. He recently spoke against the OK/library/"gay themed" books law
Edited on Sat May-21-05 02:30 PM by rainbow4321
Just Googling and guessing here..this was from a few weeks ago:

http://dannyfisher.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_dannyfisher_archive.html

May 11 entry:

House Resolution 1039, by state Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, passed Monday by a vote of 81-3, calling on all public libraries in the state to "confine homosexually themed books and other age-inappropriate material to areas exclusively for adult access and distribution," the Oklahoman reported.

"This isn't censorship, because I'm not asking that they be thrown away, be burned. I'm asking that they just be put in with adult collections and then if a parent wants their child to see a book like that they can check it out," Kern said.

The three Democratic lawmakers who voted against the measure said it would strip power from local library boards and would strain their already stretched resources.

"We have very good library boards and I just kind of hate to take that power away from our local libraries to choose the books that they display. They really don't have room or the money to separate them," said Darrell Gilbert, D-Tulsa.

http://www.speakspeak.org/speak-blog/index.php?cat=10

“Where’s the stopping point on this?” asked Darrell Gilbert (D-Tulsa)

“If this is a book that you want to have in, quote, an adult-only access part of the library - which there aren’t any such things – you’re going to have to take every anatomy book and put it in there, too, because it has nude bodies in it, pictures of body parts. Where does it stop?”

17. Why did the White House go on Cipro Beginning September 11th?
Why did the White House go on Cipro Beginning September 11th?
Were they psychic, or did they know?

Nearly a month before the first reported outbreak, White House officials start taking the powerful antibiotic Cipro to treat anthrax. By the end of the year it will be known that the Ames strain of anthrax used in the attacks against Sens. Leahy and Daschle was produced by CIA programs coordinated through Fort Detrick, the Batelle Memorial Institute and the Dugway Proving Ground.

FBI & BUSH ADMINISTRATION SUED OVER ANTHRAX DOCUMENTS

Judicial Watch Wants to Know Why White House Went on Cipro Beginning September 11th

What Was Known and When?
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that it has filed lawsuits against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”), the Center for Disease Control (“CDC”), the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (“USAMRIID”) and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for those agencies’ failures to produce documents concerning the terrorist anthrax attacks of October 2001, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”).
