Afghan President Won't Be Throwing Out First Pitch at Fenway

BOSTON (AP) - Afghan President Hamid Karzai won't get his wish to throw out a first pitch at Fenway Park.

"The logistics were just too complicated to make it happen," Boston Red Sox spokesman Glenn Geffner said. snip

"He does know about baseball and also supports it," said Ashraf Haidari, a spokesman for the Afghan embassy in Washington. He said security concerns made a first pitch difficult.

Geffner said Karzai would not attend the game.

3. BU is about a stone's throw from Fenway, maybe it's a tradition
of people receiving honorary degrees from there. I never heard of it though.

6. Hi, Fridays Child. -- I did try to look it up --
-- but couldn't find it. I have a paperback dictionary and it didn't have that form of the word in it.

So I guessed.

7. I can't find it, either, so that makes it yours.
It rolls off the tongue quite nicely. I'd say it's a keeper. :)

9. how do you "support" baseball?
You either like it or you don't. Does Karzai buy MLB sanctioned merchandise? Does he trot around Kabul wearing an A-Rod jersey? Did he buy the MLB Extra Innings package on his dish?

I guess they wanted shots of the lib'rul crowds cheering Bush's favorite puppet. More stagecraft at our expense. I'm glad it's been scrubbed.
