"Protesters Mob Laura Bush in Israel"...the sunshine is working
Edited on Sun May-22-05 10:15 AM by mopaul
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050522/ap_on_re_mi_ea/laura_bush

The first lady was mobbed by protesters and local reporters, and Secret Service agents and Israeli police had to physically hold back the crowd as she approached the wall.

She then went to the Dome of the Rock, a mosque on a hilltop compound known to Muslims as Haram as-Sharif and to Jews as Temple Mount. As she left the mosque, one heckler yelled, "How dare you come in here?" and "Why do you hassle our Muslims?"

Mrs. Bush removed her shoes as she entered the mosque and walked barefoot on the red carpet. She held a black scarf tightly around her head as she gazed up at the gilded dome and the colorful mosaics on the marble walls.

Some of the women studying inside the mosque were clearly annoyed at the intrusion and waved their fingers at the U.S. entourage. Despite the chaos at both sites, Mrs. Bush kept smiling and said little.

2. Laura Bush's visit is more for the benefit of polishing Shrub's
...image with defecting republicans than boosting America's image abroad. All theater:

<snip>
"We in principle don't reject anyone's visit to the Al Aqsa Mosque (compound), but we see in the visit of Mrs. Bush an attempt to whitewash the face of the United States, after the crimes that the American interrogators had committed when they desecrated the Quran," the militant Islamic Hamas group said in a statement on its Web site.

Adnan Husseini, director of the Islamic Trust that administers the mosque compound, said Mrs. Bush tried to play down the heckling, saying it could have happened anywhere.

Husseini said he told her he hoped President Bush would exert pressure to achieve peace in the Holy Land. Bush is meeting on Thursday at the White House with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

13. It was on Wolf Blitzer's Late Edition
Suzanne Malveaux (sp) was on saying it was a very scary situation. At one point a little boy ran up to her and the Israeli's pulled their guns on him and he ran off. Laura did keep a smile the whole time.= Amazing, the guards and crowd was pretty riled and Laura just walked on by. What in the helm did they ever take her to the Dome Of The Rock for anyway? She took her shoes of for about 2 seconds and then they got her out of there. Rather than tell Israeli's and Palestinians to get over it, she should tell knuck, knuck to do something besides violent war. "*" has ignored the I/P situation since he was installed.

7. I personally am so happy that she went there...
Not only was she exposed to the open protests...protests that she is protected from ever seeing and experiencing in the USA, but also she created a scenario that could not be ignored by the press...so there ya have some great coverage of what the world thinks of the USA and of bushco...and it actually got great media coverage..this is a very good thing.

The BFEE absolutely is orgasmic over the spiralling, oiut of control violence that they are stoking.

What better way to keep the need for American Troops in the region politically viable?

Where I come from, blundering through enormous mistakes with a big smile on your face is the mark of an idiot. Thank goodness we have the corporate media to remind me that it's actually heroic.
