Run, Laura, run! What kind of husband would put his wife in this situation
Edited on Sun May-22-05 07:18 PM by Bluebear

U.S. first lady Laura Bush rushes back to her car after visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

Does her husband care so little about her safety that he would send her into the hotbed of anti-American sentiment just to boost his approval numbers a smidge? You can see she is clearly terrified. Family values, George?
====

The protests exposed Mrs Bush, 58, who embarked on Friday on the solo tour of the region intended to counter anti-American sentiment, to the perils of raising her public profile.

During her husband's first term, Mrs Bush appeared content to play the role of the the shy librarian she once was.

All that changed last month with an after-dinner speech in which she mocked her husband's early bedtime and compared herself to a character in the television series Desperate Housewives. On the back of the speech her high approval ratings in the polls surged, something the White House was all too happy to exploit with her six-day tour of the Middle East, a region fraught with diplomatic dangers...

She started innocently enough with a speech on Saturday in Jordan, one of America's strongest Arab allies, in which she called for greater human rights for women in the region. But yesterday it was volatile Israel, so often the source of international tension, that exposed her to her first serious dissenters. Mrs Bush, who during her one-day trip visited the Palestinian-controlled West Bank town of Jericho, said the protests showed "what an emotional place this is".

1. Personally, I am more worried about the diet they have her on. I
think she was healthier before they took the carbs away. But showbiz is showbiz!

7. We have not been eating bread since time began. Too much of
anything makes you fat. Laura was not fat. Laura was 50+.

29. being past 50 does not mean automatic weight gain
you need to move more to make up for the decreasing muscle mass but it can be done. Laura doesn't even have a job - she has plenty of time to get moving instead of doing the carb nonsense.

33. Perhaps she bought a bowflex. I am not sure I should have brought
this topic up. I just hate the repuke machine cookie cutter press for their woman.

Yes exercises is good. So is getting old enough to have a little meat on you.

Edited on Sun May-22-05 09:56 PM by Skittles
including processed bread; it didn't start making us fat in the past few decades - people are eating more and moving less - that is how they are packing on the pounds

40. sorry, I didn't mean to imply I thought Laura was overweight!
she looks OK to me to - I think she's just like a lot of us when we get older - we find our motabolism has slowed a tad. I just wish the answer was to step up the strength and resistance training a bit instead of falling for the next fad diet. :)

9. starch is not a natural part of a human diet.
we have not been eating bread since time began-

we are by nature hunter/gatherers- meat, fish, poultry, fruits, nuts, berries.

bread came later, along with an agrarian society.

16. It's called a rhetorical question.
It's a time-honored part of conversation and debate.
The answer being evident doesn't make a rhetorical question "stupid".

I'm just sayin', is all... :eyes:

6. I'm glad she's terrified
She has lived under the delusion that bushies are loved the world over for too long. Welcome to reality. She has been shielded from protesters, been spoon-fed lies about our standing in the world, and doesn't have a clue about the damage her ill-bred husband has caused. Her statement that "we are closer to peace here now than we have been for a long time" is an outright lie. And she doesn't lie very well.

Remember that 'medical procedure' that Condi had to have back in Dec? Maybe she needed a quick little vacuum job?

Is he so out of touch that he couldn't see the danger to the first lady in sending her to the ME?

I'm no fan of Laura, the Stepford wife, but this move was just plain reckless.

they even tore up the Queen's prized roses. She was totally pissed. Plus they put in some kind of electronic blocking stuff and she couldn't watch her favorite soaps.
