If a Dem Senator called for a march on Washington, would you come?
I read through much of Pachamama's post about meeting Barbara Boxer in the grocery store and felt encouraged to write the good senator not one, but two letters suggesting she call on DU if she needed help. In my last note, I asked her to consider organizing a march on Washington. Hell, I don't even know if that's a good idea or even acceptable behavior from a senator...but these days "acceptable" and "ethical" have flown out the window.

I've often thought that we are lacking some kind of focal point around which to rally. If a leader rose up and said, "I'M TIRED OF THIS AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE," I believe the people would march en masse on Washington, D.C.

Would you go? Would you be willing to help those who are poor to make the trip? Conversely, would you accept help from those who could give it? Would a one-day march be sufficient or are we going to have to eventually strike and hold a Washington, D.C. sit-in?

Sigh...I'm feeling pretty damn powerless right now, but the truth is we aren't powerless, we just lack unity and a good leader to help us direct our energies.

5. If Kerry had asked, I'd still be camped on the Mall's lawn.
I guess that's why I'm still mad at Kerry. He could have at least put up a fight, and now thousands of people are going to die.

10. brainshrub, I felt (and feel) exactly like you do.
I was willing to take weeks--months!--out of my life, risk the chance I wouldn't be able to find a place to stay, make ends meet, stay healthy, etc., had Kerry only said the word. The moment was wasted and I felt betrayed. :( I don't start or participate in flame wars surrounding Senator Kerry, but I really feel that a golden opportunity was wasted. The senator certainly lost my trust.

Now I hope this doesn't turn into a flame war. Sigh. It's my opinion. No one else has to share it. I don't trust the guy. End of story.

now in Northern Virginia, I can host 2 or 3 humans, but my cranky cat might have a problem with the 5 dogs!

11. Well then, I'll just bring our cats too...
for company of course. And lots of catnip!
Nah, we'd probably have to split up and have someone stay at home with the kiddies (furry ones and not so furry ones.) But thanks for the invite. What part of PA?

14. Originally, Pittsburgh
now North of the' Burgh in Crawford County (middle of nowhere.)
You know, it's kind of embarrassing, but where exactly is Johnstown? (I assume that's the Flood City -- from the tales of my youth) Obviously I'm geographicly impaired, but south central PA right?

22. It's been a while, but I think it's only about...
60 miles or so slightly south and east of Pittsburgh. You may be thinking of Chambersburg as far as south central?

Edited on Sun May-22-05 11:24 PM by KaliTracy
ignore. I posted this a day or so ago in response to something on the 2004 forums. I'm not sure that it's feasible for people to all come to Washington -- though chances are better in nicer weather -- I would if given enough notice (more than a couple of days) as long as I was able (the majority of my work is proposal writing, so if something was "in house" then, I wouldn't be able to leave).)

said a couple of days ago:

I would love it if we, all of the people who are irked at the direction this country is going; all of the people who know something "happened" on election day, and just can't find the smoking gun yet;, all of the people who are pissed off because of this illegal and immoral war that has been perpetrated by lies, and more lies; all of the people who just can't take it any more could rally together, send emails to major news outlets all within the same hour(or scattered further) (timed by state) - who could go to their State House on the Same Day with many videographers or other record keepers in each state willing to send a copy of the film into one major left-leaning media sources, and we chanted, We're Mad as Hell and We're Not Going to Take it Anymore

Don't we hear over and over that Dems need to focus -- to stay on message? Well -- isn't that a place to start? Get them looking at you -- get them really looking at you, and then tell them why you are there.

I've been saying this for months. It will take at least a million of us for us to get 3 minutes of press and we'd probably better be prepared for it to get ugly. Like Kent state ugly.
