1. Frist would probably pull a Delay
And use Homeland Security to track them down. I need not matter at this point, the Republicans have no interest in the Constitution and as such are not dealing in good faith. Any Dem still trying to "compromise" is compromising themselves.

9. I think if they got the msg...
They would have shut down the government from creating any more folly. Apparently the message was lost.

Oh, that "I" should be "it" in my first response.

2. A quorum of the Senate is a majority of the elected members of the Senate.
Just fifty Republicans have to show up. They've got 55.

3. 51, according to the Constitution.

50 + 1, given the present membership of the Senate. In other words, a majority.

4. This may sound a bit juvenile, but....
If the Frist edict passes, the opposition party is permanently disabled - gone - silenced forever. So, what is the use of showing up on the Senate floor anymore? Can the 44 (45?) Democratic Senators just close up shop in DC and go home? Work out of their home-state offices. Make it clear WHY they are doing this. They can really be in-touch with the locals and their concerns. Let constituants know they can act on those concerns some day if the Republican Senate ever accepts them. They would also be free to spend more time with their families and to help other Dems campaign.
Would this hurt or help?

7. yeah I'm juvenile on this too -
If nothing else it would force the MSM to cover it. From what I have read above, it is both a rule and part of the constitution (majority = quorum) so they could have votes with just publicans. But the constitution allows them to "compel" the missing guys to show up (think Texas). Boy wouldn't that be a hoot.

8. Maybe they can just party for a week somewhere
like Fire Island - they would have a blast. Tom's stormtroopers would be beaten back with zellmiller spitballs.
Or hell, better yet, send all 45 to Toronto or Cancun for a month. Let's see what kind of hassle they get from Homeland Suckurity when they return.

11. Existing rule (at previous link)

The presence of a quorum of the Senate is required for the Senate to transact business; however, a smaller number of members may adjourn from day to day and shall have authority to compel the attendance of absent members.

So no need to the pubs to declare a dictatorship, or even change the rules.

It's what we get for losing the senate.
