This is a photo gallery that really explains what the war is

These are probably the most emotional pictures I have seen and I believe this is worth sharing. It is very sad, and there are two pictures at the middle of the page that are graphic. I really feel this needs to be seen, especially by these kids who are thinking of signing up for service....

This is why it is so important to protect our rights, our guys are out there giving life and limb for what they believe is our democracy and we owe it to them to do all we can to uphold our constitution.

They have stuff you never (or seldom) see anywhere else. Government documents, photos, etc. It was the first place I saw the photos of the coffins.

36. You're right
A few months ago a young man from my friend's hometown was killed in Iraq. I think he was 19, married with a baby on the way. Her mother went to the funeral home and nearly fell to her knees in shock as she walked through the doors: The scene was exactly like those she had witnessed countless times when going to the funerals of friends and family of friends during the 1960s.

16. Just this weekend, I saw a commercial spot for the Army
I hadn't seen this one before, but it showed a young African-American man having a heart-to-heart talk with his mother. He begins by saying "Mom, I found a way to pay for college..." and reveals a recruitment card. She freezes, but says "OK, tell me more." He then starts out saying, "Well, I've been thinking about becoming an engineer..."

This is a perfect example of the kind of recruitment tactics Michael Moore mentioned in "Fahrenheit 9/11." Targeting the minority communities, slanting the content to focus on vocational training (which is getting increasingly harder to find).

The whole "Army of One" thing doesn't look so hot when it means "You're all alone out there."

He also talks about this in "Bowling for Columbine." He follows two recuriters and they purposley go to the poorer side of town because more people will be willing to sign up. It's disgusting. He also interviewed a group of black boys together (about five or so) and were asked who had a sibling in the military and half of them raised their hands. According to Moore's talk with these boys they're no dummies and know what they do.

We have a dumb ass "War President" who didn't have the balls to even show up for National Guard duty, who has ruined so many countless lives and careers over lies.

Where the hell is the outrage.

It literally pisses me off to no end that we may never see any form of justice for what Bush has put this country (and the world) through.

20. How horrible.
It makes me sick to see these photos, knowing that this war is only being fought for the benifit of the few.

I have a friend who wants to go into the marines, because he is getting over drug problems. Even his fiscal republican grandfather is against it. My fiance and I had convinced him not to go, but yesterday he was talking about it like it was going to save him. It's terribly heartbreaking to see what this is doing to so many families.

It's f*cking crimminal that they take these young men and women, and ruin their lives forever. These kids should be working on getting jobs and going to school, not getting paid shit to go kill, and scarring them for life.

For those of you with family members over there, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Bush is destroying our government fiancially and taking away social programs and making them private. He wants people to join the military so he doesn't have to have a draft for his little base to keep voting republican. As long as it doesn't effect them they don't give a damn.

32. Whenever I see anything like this,
or I read about the atrocities we've committed in Afghanistan and G. Bay Cuba, I have to go through it.

It makes me sick and angry that it was done partially in my name, but I force myself to look at the pictures or to read the interviews and articles.

Each and every time I apologize for not doing enough to stop the steamroll of the * Juggernaut. It allows me to atone for my part in this mess. It also allows me to have some shred of comfort in knowing, that though he claims to be carrying out this senseless war in my name and the name of every American citizen, that I've symbolically withdrawn from it.

It reminds me that maniacs are in control of our system of government, and it fuels the white hot fury that I feel in the pit of my stomach at the individuals who made it happen.

I can feel, symbolically, that the neo-fascist conservative movement does not have my support for their mindless, inhumane war, but I also grieve at not being able to do enough to keep it from happening.

At least I know that my tax dollars aren't supporting it. The government pays me at the end of the year. There are some good things about being a student and living below the poverty line.

you know what really strikes me about these pics? these guys look so YOUNG, so vital and alive and handsome.

in 30 years, when i am my mother's age, will i see these guys on the same streetcorners where i see the Vietnam vets now? will they too be disabled by their memories as well as by these wounds? will we at least take care of them, allowing most of them to go on to lives of dignity?

what a freaking waste.

I'm not trying to be callous - of course I have much sympathy for the pain the soldiers have been through.

What struck me most was the hidden medical costs, emotional costs, lost productivity, etc. that wars create. It's a shame.
