Newshounds Media Digest
Issue #32 - Week of 5/15-5/21/05
http://www.newshounds.us

1. Judy: In the category of, "You can fool some of the people some of the time ...," Fox News is finding less favor among television viewers, having lost 58 percent of its prime time audience among 25- to 54-year-olds between October and April. http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/18/fox_news_in_ratings_free_fall.php

2. Marie Therese: Richard Miniter, a guest on The O'Reilly Factor, described Iraq's latest TV craze this way: "If you read the Iraqi press, one of the most popular programs they have is called in Arabic 'Terrorists in the Grip of Justice.' They show people who've been - insurgents - who've been captured by Iraqi police, who've been beaten and tortured and confessed on live TV." What Miniter neglected to mention is that al-Iraqiya, the TV station that airs what I've dubbed "Torture TV," is owned by an American company. http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/22/torture_tv_hottest_show_in_iraq_is_run_by_americans.php#more

3. Melanie: Fox News would have a more difficult time being Fox News if its viewers had longer memories. http://tinyurl.com/8e3a5

4. Nancy: After George Galloway's bravura performance at the Senate hearing on the Oil-for-Food program, Fox News Live just had to try to discredit him. So they called on one of their usual suspects, Claudia Rossett, who repeated some of the lies and distortions the reactionary echo chamber has been tossing around, and whose assertions went unchallenged by David Asman.

5. ChrisH: Study backs up NewsHound theory that the more graphics Fox has going on the screen, the less they want you to absorb. http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/19/graphics_overload_reduced_comprehension.php#more

6. Deborah: Hannity recruited Robert Bork this week to tell us what the Democrats are really trying to do. Bork has not mellowed with time and his appearance confirmed everyone's fears about appointing far right judges. http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/19/_hannity_helps_robert_bork_get_revenge.php#more

7. Ellen: News Hound Ellen to Democrats appearing on FOX News: It's time you understood that FOX News isn't interested in your point of view, it wants to demolish it. Stop trying to win the hosts over and start understanding what you're up against. http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/17/for_the_zillionth_time_a_democrat_allows_fox_news_to_set_the_agenda_frame_the_discussion_and_bully_him_away_from_his_talking_points.php
