I think we were sold down the river again
with this agreement.

So what we have now...is dictatorship plain and simple.

1. Andy
How are you feeling? Is your surgery still scheduled for Thursday? My thoughts and prayers are with you.

As for the agreement, I haven't heard the details yet. I just turned on Tweety a few minutes ago and saw they reached an agreement, but came out here to find the details and found you.

10. Frist is not the loser
we are for continuing to support a government that merely wants to take OUR rights and DOES NOT represent us.

I am boiling mad here and this is such bullshit. Fillibuster only in extreme circumstances? WTF does that mean? Fuck that!

The time has come for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country.

I agree.

ANY DOUBT THAT "AMERICA" CEASED ON DECEMBER 9 2000 HAS NOW BEEN ELIMINATED.

11. I am REALLY confused. Byrd says the Republic's been saved.
There is an agreement to only filibuster in "egregious circumstances". Well, goddamn, do we NOT have "egregious circumstances" on our hands here?

my head hurts, too

12. That is my first reaction, too.
Dems get to symbolically "save the filibuster," while Repubs get everything else they wanted, anyway. In other words, we lose, but some Dems get to look good.

Okay, I'll wait to see what really happens, but I don't like the look of it one bit.

16. Jesus, NO
We would have had that if we had allowed the filibuster to get killed.

22. How about a reality check? We are the MINORITY and we are
damn lucky we survived this and came out this well. The important thing is to still have that filabuster and we will drag it out the minute Bush sends a neo-wacko up for SC nomination. We could have lost the whole goddamn thing---i.e., where they got all their judges AND took away our filabuster. Minority means you get fucked. This time they wore a condom AND that's a major victory.

25. I'm not real crazy about the deal, but on the bright side:
1. Frist didn't get what he wanted, which is the destruction of the judicial filibuster. Anything that takes some wind out of Frist's sails is a positive development, IMO. He went out on a limb for this, and he didn't get it.

2. The Dems still have some ability to filibuster judges, including -- most importantly -- Supreme Court nominees. Looks to me like the Republicans blinked as hard as the Democrats. There is no definition of the "extraordinary circumstances" needed for future filibusters, so there's a lot of wiggle room for the Dems.

My feeling is that, as disappointing as it is that Owens and Brown won't be filibustered, it could have been a lot worse.

Much like the vote for the IWR made by "our" side saved us from invading Iraq.
