BBC: Camp Delta death chamber plan
Camp Delta death chamber plan (BBC, updated Tuesday, 10 June, 2003, 16:46 GMT 17:46 UK)

A court and execution chamber could be built at the US detention camp in Cuba under plans being drawn up by military officials.

Military tribunals for some of the hundreds of men detained at the US base on Guantanamo Bay moved a step closer last month with the appointment of a chief prosecutor and chief defence counsel.

Pentagon rules for the tribunals permit death sentences to be passed and the construction of a death chamber at the camp is among options being considered.

But defence officials stress that everything remains on the drawing board until orders are issued by the president.

1. Wasn't Saddam guilty of the "death chamber" mentality?
Edited on Tue May-24-05 07:19 AM by mzmolly
And, isn't that mentality what the so called "Liberation" was supposed to eliminate?

My God I hate being informed these days.

On edit, WELCOME. It's tough to be warm right now, my apologies.

5. i can only see trouble ahead with proposed "death chambers"

......."We have a number of plans that we work for short-term and long-term strategies but that's all they are - plans," camp commander Major-General Geoffrey Miller told the Associated Press news agency.

'Getting ready'

Renovation work such as rewiring has begun on a number of buildings which could later be designated as courts for the tribunals.

General Miller told AP there are also plans to build a permanent prison block for those convicted and sentenced and an execution chamber should any be sentenced to death.

"We're getting ready so we won't be starting from scratch," he said.

3. And On What Grounds Are ANY Of These Prisoners Eligible
for death? This strains my credulity beyond the breaking point. There are people walking around free, publicly displaying their crimes, more likely to qualify for capital punishment than anyone hidden in Guantanamo for the past 2 or 3 years, without victims, witnesses, or legal assistance!

4. We now have proof positive that...
Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush have taken a page out of Adolph Eichmann's book. The Final Solution by any other name is still Final Solution.

I can't believe that we have allowed our selected leaders to drag us down this much.

9. No, this was one of the outrages 'leaked' to make the REAL outrages
seem less outrageous, like torture is not as bad as 'death chambers', whew! so glad they are 'only' torturing them! Remember the plans 'leaked' by the pentagon that they were going to bury our soldiers in 'mass graves' with bulldozers? We were OUTRAGED by that, so when they said ... no we would NEVER do that we said, whew! So glad they are going to bring our dead soldiers back ... Nevermind we should have NO dead soldiers because we should NOT BE IN THIS ILLEGAL WAR!!!

10. Oh, great! Create martyrs. That always works.
Here's another hint for the geniuses who thought this one up. Go ahead and broadcast the executions live around the world. That'll show them the blessings of American civilization.

13. In the 2 years since, Bushco has created thousands of martyrs. Fallujah,

for instance, was another production of the same brilliant minds who proposed the Camp Delta death chamber.

The problem with the execution room is that they could only kill "enemy combatants" (POWs) one at a time. It's so much more efficient to do it with air strikes and artillery.

Today, even more more people want revenge than in 2003. Genius. Sheer genius.

14. The Fourth Reich is alive and well.
Sounds like a variation of The Final Solution, except this time it's war against Little Brown People(TM).

15. Stomach-turning.
They wallow in an ocean of their own excrement.

Absolutely shocking lack of morality, total scorn for history.

Can they really be that unaware of Germany 1939-45?

Will today's dissidents, be tomorrow's "enemy combatants"?
