Told some freepers about the "pissilla" owen's...
Edited on Tue May-24-05 05:15 PM by slor
rape case judgment. They were shocked and angry that the chimp would push someone like her. I even showed the pdf about her, from a post a good DUer linked a few days ago. I carry copies of it all around to hand out. For what it is now worth, they were pretty pissed.

9. Thanks for the link.
I recall seeing that before, but forgot to save the source.

We're probably stuck with her, but she doesn't sound like the sort who would handle criticism with any grace (NONE of Bush's picks would). Lets not waste our efforts in suicide attacks, but stay cool. Keep reminding all about her corporate-friendly agenda.

Very few Americans really regard a paper-thin majority as a Mandate. In time, they'll be repulsed at such arrogance. Stay cool.

10. Maybe we're not stuck with her
I heard some inside scuttlebutt on the radio this morning. A guy called in to Stephanie Miller's show and said that part of the deal was that the seven Repub Senators would vote against one of the nominees when it came time for the "up or down" vote.

I hope it's Owen. Rogers-Brown is a flaming asshat, but Owen is just plain dangerous for every living person and thing.

12. My feelings also.
She strikes me as the WORST of the pick, although I don't know enough of the others yet. With limited resources and options, let's hope the Democrats concentrate on the WORST one. We can then have a trophy to boast about. That would drive the Freeper element in the Reptilican Party WILD.

2. Excellent!
You should also have pointed out the Ford case where a quadrapeligic died under her watch because she sat on the case for two years while his family went broke and life support equipment failed due to lack of money.

Culture of life, my ass!

<snip>
"To sum up the case: Willie Seacry was a young black man who, at the age of 14, became a quadriplegic in 1993 when a car veered into the one driven by his stepdad and a defective seat belt caused his spinal cord to be severed in the crash. Although a jury awarded him $40 million in damages (reduced to $30 million on appeal), Ms. Owens tossed the award and ordered a new trial, all the while the family's bills piled up and the quality of his care deterioated. The full extent to which Ms. Owens rat fucked this young man is stunning and involves a disregard for life -- to say nothing of blatant, reckless judicial activism -- that you really must read the entire account as layed down by Dubose.

In 1996, Owens received the case in the Texas Supreme Court and promptly -- or most would argue, in anything but PROMPT attention -- stretched it out for the next 5 years.

Willie Scearcy died in the summer of 2001. Here's how Dubose characterized his death (remember, this is a kid that a jury and an appeals court agreed deserved millions in damages)"
<snip>

"Ford's second round of procedural appeals finally ran out on June 29, 2001, when the Dallas Court of Appeals handed down a ruling that seemed to guarantee Susan Miles the money she needed to care for her son. The boy -- who had (heroically) graduated from high school, wheeled from class to class by an attendant who monitored the ventilator that kept him breathing and held a transducer to his throat to allow him to "talk" -- was now 21 and living by a system his parents had patched together.

Four days later, on July 3, the patchwork system of care unraveled. Willie's night attendant left at 4 a.m. At 5 a.m. Susan Miles walked into her son's bedroom and immediately realized that something was wrong. The ventilator was not working. "Aged out" of Medicaid at 21, Willie's weekly nursing allotment had been reduced from 104 to 34 hours. His working-class parents didn't have the resources to hire round-the-clock attendants or place him in a facility where he would have round-the-clock monitoring and care. What Jack Ayres had described nine years earlier as "a race to save this kid's life" had become a marathon. But it was over."

What a piece of work by the "Compassionate Conservative"!

7. A whole lotta good info & quotes in there!
My fave:
"Most of Justice Owen's dissent is nothing more than inflammatory rhetoric and thus merits no response."

That's a pretty SIGNIFICANT statement when it's coming from a High Court in Texas!
I mean, just how LOONY do you have to be, to be a judge and send a legal arguement THAT BAD to higher judges?

Any decent lawyer can find a law or precedent to support almost ANY position.
Justice Owen, however, CANNOT.

Evil AND incompetent...what a combo!
