Convicted Sex Offender Hired By Second Police Department

HANCEVILLE, Ala. -- A convicted sex offender who was hired after his conviction by the Blountsville Police Department was also hired by Hanceville police, according to NBC13’s Chris Pallone.

John Matthew Langston was hired by the Hanceville Police Department part-time in early 2005. John Wells, of the Hanceville City Council, criticized the hiring of a convicted sex offender. The hiring should be addressed in a City Council meeting scheduled for Monday evening.

Langston was also hired at the Blountsville Police Department based on his service record with the Vestavia Hills Police Department. However, he resigned from the Blountsville department on May 16 after being suspended by police Chief Mike Harris, who told him that there was a resident who alerted the District Attorney’s office of his history.

Langston was originally charged with sexually abusing a female under the age of 12 in March of 2003 while serving as a DARE officer with Vestavia Hills police. At that time, he was asked to surrender his badge and gun, and he later pled guilty to a misdemeanor sexual misconduct charge.
