INS Status Adjustment Interview - anyone been thru one?
we're going in for my husband's status adjustment interview next month for his permanent residency. i'm not worried about it (we've been married over 5 years and have offspring) but curious what to expect. all i know is what i've seen in the movies (well, of course, in addition to our experiences with INS thus far ;-) ).

1. I have...
In our interview the INS intereviewer wanted to see joint financial stuff like tax returns & bank statements...

Although, I suspect they are more into studying your body language when interacting with each other than paper documentation.

Since you have offspring together, you may be in & out even before you know.

I have two step children that we dragged them along for the interview :-), the officer didn't even have them come into the interview room, she thanked them on our way out.

Nothing to worry about in any legit case.

Congratulate your husband when it is done.

The citizenship eligibility is next.

take care.

2. the requested stuff is easy
the letter lists the paperwork, which i already save compulsively ;-)

i won't be bringing our 4-year old along, as he lacks patience and i know from experience that the wait can be more than "a little long" ;-)

watching body language, huh? we have had some delays in getting to this interview - hope they know 5+ years married body language as well as newlyweds in the throes of passion body language!

and - welcome to DU! :hi:

5. thnx, I'd take the 4-year old...
I am sure the officers are pretty good at figuring out the body language whether it is - 10+, 5+ or "yet to be married" - throes of passion

I would take the 4 yr old, there is no expectation to change your normal family interactions for the interview. If he gets impatient, so be it, it is a characteristic of your family unit.

7. Our experience was very easy.
The interviewer was friendly and professional, asked pretty standard questions.

I think they look for body language and interaction cues. If your relationship is the real deal, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

We did NOT take our child, so she asked several questions about him that only a parent living with him would know (bedtime, school issues, very basic).

They mostly asked the questions of my husband, who was applying for permanent residency status. I was pretty much ignored, to tell the truth!
