The new DCCC fund raising program benefits the Blue Dog Democrats
The Hill has a story up about the new fund raising campaign

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) “Frontline” program is entering its second phase, with the committee and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) urging big-money national donors — many of whom have maxed out to the congressional committees — to fill the campaign coffers of the Democrats’ 10 most vulnerable incumbents.

and who are these Democrats? All but one is part of the conservative Blue Dog Democrat Coalition:

The Frontliners are Reps. John Barrow (Ga.), Melissa Bean (Ill.), Leonard Boswell (Iowa), Chet Edwards (Texas), Stephanie Herseth (S.D.), Brian Higgins (N.Y.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Charlie Melancon (La.), Dennis Moore (Kan.) and John Salazar (Colo.).

1. Boswell is a good man. We are not a party that requires
lock-step agreement with our leadership. I love that about us. Where I start to hate democratic congress members is when they cross an undetermined line like Zell Miller did and always vote with the right. We must win next time--and the house can only be taken over by ensuring that when districts are drawn after the 2010 census, some dems, even if they're not liberals, can stand up for our party.

3. Interesting that you support a representative who voted for bankruptcy act
and tort reform and is currently part of the coalition who is working in a bi-partisan way to gut Social Security and make the courts more corporate friendly.

Isn't it great that you have a group to which you can give your money to help corporations take money from the working man and give it to their stockholders. Good for you.

4. But that is just the thing. Do you know Iowa's third district?
Because it is adjacent to mine and we get a guy like Boswell who NARROWLY gets re-elected each term over dickhead Stan Thompson. Thompson is a Jim Nussle clone--and he is a Tom Delay fan.

So yes, I'll take "bankrupt Boswell" over Tom Delay's clone--and yes those are the only two choices as Boswell is appreciated by the grass roots in that area.

Or would you prefer that Democrats abstain from voting for him, become an ideologically pure party, and have 30% representation in congress? This is a fair question.

2. this really irks me
Dennis Moore was hardly vulnerable - the Kansas Republicans keep running insane candidates against him. What's shocking about this is that he now IS vulnerable, not from the right but from the left - he's had some horrible votes in this Congress (not only voted for the bankruptcy bill, but signed the letter urging it come to a vote). This Democrat in his district is sorely tempted to sit out his next election, because I'm totally pissed off at him. I'm sick of his right wing pandering.

So, he infuriates the Democrats in his district, and now Pelosi needs to pony up lots of money for him to win more Republican votes. What's wrong with this picture?
