My letter in the Miami Herald...
Okay, they edited a couple of sentences out. But not enough to destroy the point I was trying to make. This is only the second letter I've ever written, and the first to be printed.

Media shirk duty

Re Robert Steinback's May 11 column, More Americans reacting to evidence, not emotions: He makes some valid points. But I take issue with the last paragraph, where he says that the media are timid about challenging the Bush administration.

The media's job is not to make the politicians happy. Their job is to report events in a way that brings them to the public's attention. The Herald has written about the Downing Street Memo three times. But the story is very much alive on the Internet, in blogs and in the foreign press. The American corporate media's avoidance of news and issues is what drives many of us to get most of our news from these alternative media sources.

1. Very good letter!
It should be pointed out to them (often) that they're busily digging their own graves. People need to know things, it's an integral part of human nature to try and FIND THINGS OUT. Whoever helps us wins, whoever thwarts us loses.

Everytime someone reads a letter like yours they start to ask themselves, "What am I missing?"

2. And what is the press going to do?
Are they going to continue to roll over and be intimidated, paid for and bought?

Eventually they will just collapse, because everyone is turning off the news. Their survival will basically end when nobody cares anymore what they think.
