Talked to Andy about a half hour ago on the phone...
He sounded pretty good all things considered. I asked him if he wanted me to tell everyone he was "awake and in good spirits". He said "on good drugs" would be more accurate. He's so funny...even just out of surgery. :)

Anyway, it wasn't much of a conversation. All I could say was "it's so good to hear your voice". The fun part is that I can tease him about what he said for the rest of his life becase there's no way he's gonna ever remember. Bwahahahahaha.

Just wanted to pass along that he's awake and says hi.

4. I'll pass it along
I hope you and everyone else on DU knows how much he (and I) appreciate all the kind words and well wishes.

17. I think we do...
... and know that he acknowledges that, too.

He's got a ways to go, yet, and tell him we know, that, as well.

Tell him, in his case, the old adage, "the good die young" does not apply. :)

Cheers.

21. Too cool...
Don't take this the wrong way...but that makes you about the same age as my momma. I'm going to use you as an example of why she should join DU. She lurks and reads but I've had the damnedest time convincing her to join and post.

30. Well, no, not exactly...
... I wish I were thirty years younger at this time in our history, powerful enough to dead-lift 350 lbs, as I once could, and to have been smart enough and educated enough then to know what I know now, and thereby helped avoid the problems we have now.

But, that's not possible, so I wish the best for younger people like Andy and his peers, and hope they listen to common sense once in a while, and when they don't, never steer away from their best instincts.

Cheers.

I've got twenty years on him, too.

Tell your mama to come on over!

2. Excellent.
When he is healed, I think he should seek a lawyer and sue certain people for defamation.

He could retire on the proceeds, I think!

6. When I'm feeling vindictive I agree with you...
but that's just not something I could see Andy doing. He's just too nice a guy. :) Which is a good thing.

11. I'm not a nice guy AT ALL...
And I'm gonna nudge him in that direction if he'll listen.

I'm betting there is a DU lawyer who would take this on a fee-contingent basis.

I have spent time with both my parents post-op and they NEVER sounded like that. It is partly age, but also fighting spirit....

16. Me too.
I had talked to Termite a couple of times. And tried to call Mama Stephenson. No answer. Figured the daughter had her in tow.

He sounded damn tired, but extremely good. Expects to be in a regular room tomorrow. Tonight he is getting lots of attention.

But I hope to hell that Termite gets some sleep. He needs it.

As do I. Night all.

8. Now a days
they give you a little button you can push whenever you need a boost on your pain meds. Post-surgery is much easier then it used to be.

Just keep pushing that little button, Andy. The button is your friend.

12. From your mouth...
to Andy's ears. I've already yelled at him (gently of course) about not trying to "tough it out" or be macho. Pain inhibits healing. He's gotten a stern talking to and hopefully he'll keep himself from hurting.

32. Thanks for this great news, Velma! So funny that he already wants to talk
...takes more than months of illness and anxiety and 7-1/2 hours of major surgery to keep him down.

Yes, make it clear to him that allowing the pain to build up makes it harder to control - best to keep ahead of it - and can inhibit healing.

I'm here to tell ya, abdominal surgery is a pain, literally. He shouldn't be worried when he finds hiimself weak. Abdomnial surgery is a trauma and it really takes it out of you. He should be patient with himself. They'll have him walkng around as soon as he can tolerate it.

To Andy, Termite, and their friends: :grouphug:
