Will FundiesTarget Fertility Clinics(# of Eggs)-Read this DeLay Quote
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/25/AR2005052501979.html

DeLay, who along with his wife, Christine, is a longtime proponent of adoption, said couples visiting a fertility clinic "ought to be informed that, if you take 25 eggs, are you going to implant 25 embryos?"

"If you are not, what do you want to do with the embryos that are left over?" he continued. "If there are embryos left over, do you know that there are people out there that want those embryos and will adopt them and implant them, and babies will result?" Fertility doctors and others in the assisted reproduction field have feared that the Bush administration wants to regulate their field, which has long been saddled with a reputation for being a rogue branch of medicine in need of more ethics oversight.

In 2003, the President's Council on Bioethics began work on a report on the fertility field, a report many predicted would be the first volley in that quest. But the council's report, issued in January 2004 after significant lobbying by fertility specialists, called only for enhanced professional guidelines.

I've been thinking that horse was already out of the barn...but now I wonder. Remember a week or two ago some state Repuke(KY) was floating a proposal to limit the number of eggs a couple could fertilize to 1.

1. Bush isn't willing to insist on legislation to "save" these embryos?
Or have our taxes pick-up the cost for bringing these embryos to birth?

2. What a fucking ignorant piece of shit he is
and that is the politest terminology I can think of now.

YES, couples using invitro fertilization are all too aware that surplus embryos are produced. The woman has to take a lot of very nasty drugs so that multiple ova will ripen at the same time for harvesting, something that is major surgery. Yes, they're informed that multiple fertilized blastocysts will be implanted at the same time, in hopes that the most viable one will take hold. Since that averages about four trials, YES, couples are well aware that fertilized ova and blastocysts will be sent down the toilet, and YES, they're aware that if they get lucky on the first try, they'll have fertilized ova frozen for later use, and if they don't want more children, those ova will be destroyed.

It seems Mr. Delay is as utterly ignorant of female physiology and reproductive technology as he is of the constitution and the laws of his home state covering campaign financing and the acceptance of bribes.

I really wish we had a literacy test for candidates for public office, covering the basic constitutional structure of government, the bill of rights, and a nodding acquaintance with medicine and history. As it is, we're getting the worst dumb fucks in the country whose only qualifications are ignorance and arrogance and the backing of the worst religious wackos this country has ever seen.

4. When they talk like that...
... they piss me off in the same way they did durring the Schaivo nonsense. When these people spout "facts" that anyone who paid attention in high school biology could prove wrong, I'm willing to agree with you on higher standards for public officials.

6. Embryo's - The Republican Distraction
Gee....why is this now, so friggin' important? Where have the Republicans been on this issue for the past 20 years or so? Suddenly, with our Treasury bankrupt, millions out of work, a quagmire in Iraq, and just about the whole country ready to go down the tubes....the most important issue facing America is....embryo's?

Why do I think this is another cynical bullshit issue that helps to heighten the social tension and deflect from the real issues while the criminals take away our Bill of Rights and COnstitution and game the system to assure they are untouchable.

DeLay is worried about embryo's? Give me a fuckin' break. I think Tommy's got lots more personal issues he ought to be concerned about.

7. He threw in Jesus' name too
http://www.salon.com/opinion/blumenthal/2005/05/26/absolute_power/index.html

snip

The day after Bush was frustrated by Republicans in the Senate, 50 Republicans in the House deserted him on the issue of stem cell research. His policy limiting scientific work that might cure many diseases is a sop to the religious right, which views the stem cell question as an extension of abortion. (Historians will discover that in early August 2001 Bush was immersed in delivering a nationally televised speech on stem cells while ignoring the CIA memo titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.") Debate in the House was marshaled by Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who argued that Bush's policy must be supported because "Jesus of Nazareth" began life as an embryo. (DeLay was apparently oblivious to his heresy on the doctrine of Immaculate Conception.) Bush promised to veto the stem cell bill passed with massive Republican defections, the irony of his opposition to the filibuster going unmentioned.

I know a lot of people who had invitro - very Christian people. One even had three attempts that didn't take. I don't think she wants to be told she destroyed life trying to make life. They ended up adopting. A lot of money, heartache, and faith put to the test - he is insulting so many people.
