It's been nearly a week now
since Ajai Raj, the man who rendered ann coulter speechless with his crude language, was to go before a justice of the peace for creating a disturbance.

Hailed as a hero only a few weeks ago, and now nary a peep from anyone--neither the MSM nor DU. You'd think an issue like free speech would be worth reporting on, wouldn't you?

Does anyone know anything about Mr. Raj's fate?

1. Probably nothing has happened yet
According to a statement by himself, he was released about 3:00 AM and went to a party in his honor. Several organizations have offered to represent him. http://www.poormojo.org/pmjadaily/archives/003161.html

2. Thanks, but that took place the morning after his arrest.
He was arrested May 3, and scheduled to go before a JP May 20.

3. Well I guess the real answer is
Who gives a shit?

That guy chose a crude bullshit way to protest. It was clearly far more about his own desire to get off standing up to authority and not about anything more than that. He's not a hero; he's a self-described jackass.

Frankly I doubt much will happen to him (it wouldn't surprise me if the university already dropped the charges), but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it one way or another.

It's only freedom of speech that's at the core of this, that's all.

Who gives a shit, indeed.

(In all seriousness, he was arrested for saying 'fuck' and 'ass' in public. Please give a shit, or you may not be able to say that, either.)

6. He was arrested for causing a disturbance
Not for exercising his free speech right.

8. IF you check out my website
you will see that I am no fan of Ann Coulter. That said, it wasn't just Ann Coulter who was disturbed - it was the entire group. Everybody who attended to hear what Ann Coulter had to say.

let me put it another way, if you went to see Noam Chomsky or Michael Moore speak and some Republican (or group of Republicans) pulled the same stunt, how would you react?

9. it would be kind of interesting
to see how the lecturer or speaker handled the heckler or "disruptor."

something tells me a more progressive person would have the wherewithal to use the outburst as either an educational or shaming experience for the disruptor.

sometimes, when confronted with the power of these types, the powerless have only their voices to counteract the sheer insanity and hatred of a person like ann coulter. and make no mistake, she is a vile piece of shit.

and the people who went there to see Ann Coulter: tough shit. how much sympathy could i have for someone who believes what she say, who helps to enrich her through purchasing her books, and who helps to make the world a safer place for totalitarianism?

our cultural identity (as a country, as descendants of british/european heritage) is no stranger to random outbursts from the "cheap seats."

ever watch the broadcasts from the british houses of parliament on c-span?

well, this "shock and awe" treatment of citizens and the trampling of our fundamental civil rights (by having people arrested for speaking out or for even wearing t-shirts) is pretty much the name of the game in theocratic america.

i personally would challenge the heckler. or at least let them have their say. no one is THAT important where they can't take a little bombastic verbal assault from the "vulgar."
