Springer has some goofball on right now about requiring people
to read a book every month and then file a book report at the post office...every month. If you don't, you have to stay home with an ankle monitor as you think about what you've done.

He calls it "Rewrite America" or some such nonsense.

How could he possible think that Springer's progressive audience would condone such an idiotic idea.

3. Well, I don't agree with his method of promoting reading
But I do agree with the sentiment that people in this country simply don't read enough. And quite frankly, it's showing badly. Exhibit One would be the fact that this country put an idiot into the Oval Office, not once, but twice. Exhibit Two would be the fact that said idiot was able to dupe this country into a war. I'll stop there, otherwise it will get embarassing.

Edited on Thu May-26-05 10:29 AM by Skittles
the level of igorance I see on a daily basis - at work I often have to talk to people in countries where the work is outsourced - I mentioned to a conservative coworker I sometimes have difficulty understanding the people calling from Egypt - he said JUST GET BIJU (a coworker) to talk to them - I asked him WHY WOULD BIJU NECESSARILY UNDERSTAND THEM? HE IS FROM INDIA and I was told OH IT IS ALL IN THE SAME AREA.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

14. did you say it all in caps, too?
I hope so. What an ass.

Along with the book report requirement, there should be a mandatory monthly geography test with a requirement for "continuous improvement."

If it's good enough for the elementary schools, it should be good enough for Bush's followers.

17. Yee, would you really want to grade those reports?
I know I certainly wouldn't. Book reports, geography quizzes, grading any those that come from Bushco syncophants would drive me:crazy:

4. I'm not listening to Springer, but maybe this is tongue-in-cheek?
Otherwise, it does sound pretty stupid (and I love reading books and wouldn't mind filing a monthly book report, myself). :-)

8. Sounds like sarcasm to me.
It's obviously an absurd idea.

But it's appalling that so many people appear no to read at all. How many fine homes on HGTV have lovely bookcases--holding a few books & a bunch of "decorative items"?

And what about the dread Person Who Reads One Book A Year--who must recount every plot detail to everyone they meet? Most recently, they were all reading that Da Vinci book.

5. huh?
Why would they file it at the post office? What are they going to do with it? As stupid as the idea sounds, should book reviews be given to the library, maybe?

And if Jerry Springer is making stupid white trash suffer somehow by reading, his 'progressive' fanbase won't have much objection, at least I don't. It's his show, let him do with it what he wants. So long as we're amused.

9. It's really hard to tell if the guy is serious or doing some caller hoax.
I agree, literacy is a problem in this country. And way too few people read. It's one of the problems that make the political misconceptions worse in this country. But that's for another rant.

This guy wants police-state compliance. If you didn't turn in your report, you are now arrested and can't leave the house (like to work!) and have to attend some re-education calls (at the Post Office!) on Saturday.

The more I think about it, the more it sounds like a goof...a hoax.

He was on last week as well. You would think Jerry wouldn't be as gullible.

11. lol
Maybe we can get this through Congress if we let the Left Behind books count. But that compromise would kill the spirit of the deal!

16. So many of Springer's callers are idiots
Edited on Thu May-26-05 10:56 AM by wryter2000
I've even heard liberals I thought were idiots call that show. It's exceedingly irritating, but I think Springer's strength on the station is to appeal to people who'd watch his TV show.

On edit: I'm glad it's a gag, but I still stand by my assertion :)
