Poll question: Out Of Curiosity, What Kind Of Internet(s) Connection Do You Have?
Edited on Thu May-26-05 02:05 PM by DistressedAmerican
Since the topic came up in another thread I was wondering what speeds folks here connect at.

So, What'cha Packin?

18. Dial-up here too.
I have high-speed at work but dial-up at home. The dial-up sucks but I don't want to shell out for DSL. Another advantage of the slow-speed connection is that I tend to stay off my computer at home and actually get things done around the house. DSL would probably change that so I stay with dial-up. ;)

5. Other
ISDN, because Comcast here is a total rip-off and DSL isn't avalable in my neighborhood (older homes, older residents = low useage, I suppose)

6. DSL
Only because my dad is too cheap for cable. I did have cable at my apartment while I was away at school, and found it to be a lot better than DSL.

7. Still on dial-up
We usually get around 34.6, on average, but we also have the "turbo" feature for an extra $5.00 that helps with file compression and buffering. All in all, it's not overly slow, unless we're downloading files.

We're too rural to get cable, and I don't want to do the satellite connection.

17. abandoned concast for DSL
since I get it from a former employee, and I have all the cell numbers of the techs. 1.5/1.5 is good enough for my 10 machines and feeding the neighbors via ethernet and wireless. An IP range I can route however I want it and my own servers at home to sync with my colo servers.
The only rule is never post the ip on slashdot. :)

24. Hmmm. I just test my connection at bandwidthplace.com
and it ran a 4mb download at 2.1xx Mbps! I think that's the fastest I've seen my line go. Pretty good for Cable. I'm a kinda surprised; suspicious even... Whatever.

I'll brag about it anyway! :7

27. Just moved from dial-up to cable
Life is goooood.... :)

My husband insisted that the dial-up connection was just fine. However, we now have cable and are wireless as well, and he has seen the error of his ways. There's nothing like sitting on the deck with the PC...
