Poll: Majority may vote for Clinton
But opposition to 2008 run equally strong
Thursday, May 26, 2005 Posted: 5:02 PM EDT (2102 GMT)

CNN) -- More than half of those responding to a new poll said they would be at least somewhat likely to vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton if she runs for president in 2008.

But those saying they are virtually certain to vote against her topped those virtually certain to support her by 10 percentage points.

The release of the poll comes amid steps by Edward Cox, son-in-law of President Richard Nixon, to challenge Clinton for her U.S. Senate seat from New York. (Full story)

Clinton served on the staff of the congressional Impeachment Inquiry in the wake of the Nixon's Watergate scandal in 1974.

She has my vote all sewn up.

2. I still think this is a Republican (and maybe DLC) thing
I just don't know any real grassroots dems who think this is a good idea or who are planning to get out there and work for this.

6. Same here...
and I actually know a lot of dems who have never volunteered for a candidate before, young people my age who only voted for the first time in 2004, who are fully motivated, ready, and want to support a Hillary candidacy in any way they can!

15. I think it would be risky.....

...to nominate Hillary. She'd be a great POTUS but I'm reminded that Americans have yet to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

18. I agree that Hillary is a Vichy Democrat
both she and Bill lost all claim to anything else in 94 when Newt got elected.

7. I think CNN in particular and the "Whoreth Estate" in general...
...are making an attempt to dilute/pollute the political waters with polls like this one. It's an attempt to frame the debate before the debate even begins.

8. I'm not her biggest fan, to be sure,
but if she were the nominee, I'd be glad to cast my vote for her.

I just fear that she has as many, or more, enemies as friends.

9. Won't work... too soon for a women...
The older generation that hates(is ignorant) about gays, is the same generation that won't vote for a women. I personally would vote for her, Boxer, or whoever, but I just don't think it's worth taking that risk.

10. I don't think she should be the Dem nominee for president
She carries so much baggage from the past, and they're going to exploit that. The party needs new faces. It needs to be rebuilt from the bottom-up. Another old face won't do it, I'm afraid. We need someone who is not only consistent but has convictions that show.

Wesley Clark could probably do better if he worked to get his name out there and if he started early. Him or someone else, but please not Hillary.

14. I'm a big fan of Wes, but I still don't buy the "baggage" tag on Hillary
Whenever people talk about a Hillary Clinton candidacy, they talk about the "baggage" attached to Bill's two terms.

These discussions conveniently overlook the fact that Clinton left office with a 60% approval rating.

If that's baggage, load me up :hi:

She wouldn't be my first choice for a number of reasons, but "past baggage" ain't among my concerns.

12. Sorry, but Hillary has a problem on Iraq
Her stance on Iraq is just as incomprehensible to the average voter as was Kerry's. Our next candidate has to be someone who opposed to war -- or who has repented supporting it and no denounces the strategy of lying to get us into it. The American public is fed up with that war. Bush's support has waned because of the Iraq mess. Hillary will be tarred with the same feather as Bush unless she clarifies or changes her stance early enough to avoid an "opportunist wobbler" label.

13. Will Hillary take corporate lucre? Sure she will.
And for that reason alone I won't vote for her. That and her lurching to the right the past few years. No more corporate whores in office, haven't we seen enough of the damage that they do to this country?

16. I tell you one thing...
Edited on Thu May-26-05 05:01 PM by Dawgs
You wouldn't have to worry about the press not covering her. Compare the kind of coverage she would get to Kerry. It wouldn't even be close.

The press loves to cover the Clinton's. Yes, a lot of it would be from the right, but at least you would get it... unlike Kerry, who the media seemed to ignore.
