What's up with not being able to rec. greatest posts over 24 hours old?
If something is awesome or important it should alway be available for the DU community. Maybe things wouldn't fall so quickly down the memory hole, if we kept them around for a while. Can we change it to not being able to recommend something older than a week? One day just doesn't feel long enough for me, personally.

2. I suspect very few things merit such retention

especially Breaking News and that 'popularity' is not a good measure of value over a longer period. Individual judgment of the moderators and administrators.

It would make/keep the list unreasonably long and then we'd need a greatest of the greatest.

4. Maybe we should have a second Greatest page that sums a weekly tally.
The current GP is pretty good because I can find something new every day. I wouldn't mind seeing another GP that summed up the tallies for the greatest posts and ranked 'em on recs for the week.

with 70,000 heree gotta keep traffic moving. there could be separate board for weekly tops
