Poll question: Which of these conservatives/Republicans is most likely to become an ally
in the battle against the radical right? Some of these are our enemies right now, but there are reasons that they could turn against the radical right in the future.

4. I pick Tom Delay
I think he will start talking when he finally realizes it's over for him, helping the American people. Oath of secrecy? I don't think Mr. Delay cares about about anything but himself!

5. Chaffee and Snow are almost here
Sullivan is also breaking ranks more often. He has learned, to his sorrow, that the Republican bigwigs really do hate fags.

Barr is also a possibility -- there is a growing "paleo-Conservative" movement of traditionalists and Libertarians that opposes the Radical Right hammer-and-tong.

Ahnold, I believe, is going to get his arrogant ass burned so badly by his fair-weather co-partisans that he will be bounced out of Sac'to and become a Democratic convert during his emotional/political convalesence.

McCain's position depends on how the RadRight pans out. If it gets more strident, his ass is ours; with more moderation in the cult, he'll bed down with Them.

9. I would be very careful about trusting any of them.
When I lived in a neighborhood heavily populated with junkies, I told my horrified parents that I knew them and would trust any of them with my life. I just wouldn't trust a single one of them with five dollars.

When you trust people, be careful how far you trust them. Remember, you're dealing with a mindset here, not just a fashion show or showbiz routine. They will likely remain true to type, looking backwards, taking things literally, with no empathy or compassion at all.

10. Warpy, wise words, indeed ... but people can change, and they do
I'm not saying any of these people will become Dems .... or even embrace any of what we stand for. More likley, we'll find some commonality around an issue or two. Bob Barr, for example. We have enormous commonality with him around the Patriot Act. But will he 'convert'? Likely not. Dick Army held a similar position to Barr on all this (Recall their having gone to the ACLU about the issue.)

But people can and, in fact, DO change. The neocons are a huge example. Many are former lefties.

I hold myself out as an example. I was extraordinarily conservative in my youth. Forty years has seen me move the whole way across the political spectrum.

So yes ...... trust ..... but verify!

Wise words, indeed!

11. Conservatives are calling Lindsey Graham the third Senator from NY
not saying he would necessarily get my vote for most likely ally, but he's a nominee.
