Bush administration pushes to overturn limits on secret records searches

WASHINGTON Citing the war on terror, the Bush administration is seeking a return of its powers to get information about people through their Internet service providers.
The appeals court filing comes amid a debate in Congress over renewing the Patriot Act. There's also an ongoing debate about expanding the F-B-I's power to seek records without the approval of a judge or grand jury.

The government was authorized to pursue such communications records as part of a 1986 law. Its ability was strengthened by passage of the Patriot Act after the September eleventh attacks.

But a federal judge last year blocked the government from conducting such secret searches. The ruling followed a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union and an Internet access firm.

hell, it's in a full dead run, the creeping part was over long ago. Spying on your own citizens....nice. "But if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about". Yeah...right. :eyes: The bush administration has displayed time and again their propensity for abusing power. They want total control of the country and it's people and anything short of that, they consider a defeat. We MUST defeat them.
