Should/Could Iraq Sue The USA For War Reparations?
Edited on Sun May-29-05 02:44 PM by stopbush
An illegal war that was knowingly sold to the UN and the world through a pack of lies. There was no legal justification for it, so any UN resolutions authorizing force were based on lies must be null and void. The USA acted as an aggressor nation in this unjustified and illegal war.

So, my question if the above: should/could Iraq sue the USA for war reparations? (Set aside for a moment whether the puppet government in Iraq would dare to do so at this time).

1. I think you first have to establish that it was an illegal war
And that part hasn't been officially yet. And even if there is a statement about the illegality then you'd still have the problem of the Iraqi government.

2. Kofi Annan explicitly declared it an illegal war in Sept '04.
"I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN charter. From our point of view and from the charter point of view it was illegal."

3. They may be able to take it to
the ICC but since we do not acknowledge that body I doubt it would ever get paid.

4. They can take the UK to the ICC since the UK ratified
If that has happened then something can happen. For now the USA is untouchable.

5. I think they should and Halliburton should too.
Since the billions poured into the war went mostly to Halliburton, and not in rebuilding Iraq, they should be sued as well.
