Penn & Teller do a political smear job on College Diversity.
...Essentially blaming the Democrats for the whole PC thing, on their "Bullshit" show tonight. Although I do find them pretty on target about 2/3rds of the time, and they do veer into conservative memmes a bit often, but this episode they just went total right wing! They lent credibility to that former Trotskyite extremist-turned neo-con extremist David Horowitz, and smeared Noam Chomsky (who they called the smartest man in academia that the left worships) with their carefully selective editing. They even said they lured him onto their show to meet Kirstie Alley.

They relied mostly on this group as their 'experts'...

I'm not really familiar with them, but Horowitz I am.:puke:

Penn; "And which polictial party? It certainly ain't the Libertarians, the Whigs, or the corn-sucking Uncle Tom Party. Who does THAT leave?"<smirk>
Dan Flynn (author; Intellectual Morons)..." A lot of universities have served as a sort of trianing ground for leftists"
Penn..."NOOOOO! According to Dan and a shitload of statistics, American Academia is run by the Democratic Party."

BTW: this is this dickhead's book filled with I'm sure are dubious statistics...

Just a little taste of this hatchet job propaganda piece posing as entertainment...and I pay $12 a month for Showtime!:grr:

1. the producer of the show is a noted Horowitz fan....
a once-pal of mine, who I lost touched with. But he loved Horowitz, since he -- the producer -- had made a similar "journey" of starting on the left, and moving pretty far to the right.

Thus, any similar journey was used to justify/rationalize his own...

2. I used to love these guys but they've got some strange connections.
They're in to the "professional debunker" thing, "skeptics." Their show, which I thought would be great (HBO I think), really trashed some good causes in a very one sided way. One was on envirionmentalism. They took one environmentalist, found his most extreme view, and trashed the whole movement. WOW. They went after PETA and dismissed all of animal rights.

They're off my fav list. Enjoyed them at the time.

5. Nah
You pay $12 a month for the privilege of watching such anti-establishmentarian shows as Queer As Folk, Dead Like Me, The L Word, and the new show Weed.

Fuck Penn and Teller. I've never forgotten they got their start revealing secrets that weren't theirs to tell...namely, the secrets of stage magic. I've despised them for that from the beginning.

But that's just me.

6. You saw it too?!
I was SCREAMING at the TV! My partner said; "go get on DU and blast out a post!" I was too pissed to even do that.

Don't know about F.I.R.E.? Let me give you a little personal experience. They support the formation of KKK groups on campus, they place "liberal" professors and administrators on lists for 'observation' or they are listed as 'threats to education,' and they support right-wing Christians who like to use the Bible as references in classrooms. How do I know this? I have had to deal with representatives from their group!

I agree that some schools have gone overboard with speech codes and such, as I worked at universities for 15 years. However, most were to maintain peace on campus and not disrupt the learning process.

When Horowitz said that the speech codes were protecting various minority groups who couldn't defend themselves, I about flew into the TV!

I was so fucking mad after that show, I ranted for 45 minutes! So, this time, I have to call BULLSHIT on their Bullshit!.

I had to share that insipid banter between Penn and Flynn, so I scanned my TIVO to that part. A little google searching shows Flynn to be the very idealogue that he purports to be calling morons in his screed. I also found out that in his book he says that Chomsky defends Pol Pot's genocide, which Chomsky never did. So he's a lial to boot. Big suprise there.

He also wrote the oh' so objective, non biased, and honestly researched book titled.."How the Left Hates America".:eyes:

likes to show off his bondage gear (not that there is anything wrong with that) but his one long red nail creeps me out.

Most libratarians are annoying and smug...they need to go live in South Park, a place where everyone gets to think a real long time before it comes out there mouth - gotta love make believe worlds.
