TiVo Alert! Jeff Gannon to Take Lie Detector Test on TV Tonight
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000938743

NEW YORK Tonight's the night many (OK, at least a few) have been waiting for: The news personality formerly known as James D. Guckert takes a lie detector test -- on national TV, no less.

The man with the checkered, male escort, past rode to fame recently as White House correspondent for GOPUSA and Talon News, tossing softball questions at press briefings and then taking a hike. Tonight at 8 p.m on widely available cable channel PAX, Gannon will appear on the show "Lie Detector," hosted by Rolonda ("Inside Edition") Watts. Gannon confirms this on his own Web site.

The gimmick for the show, as described on the PAX Web site: "This provocative and often surprising series examines the truth behind real-life stories ripped from the headlines, using the most powerful instrument to detect deception -- the polygraph."

Among the questions Gannon will experience strapped to the machine: Was he fed questions by the Bush administration to use as talking points at White House briefings or was he "just a man trying to overcome his past and pursue a career as a journalist?"

4. You're absolutely right! That's one reason they are admissaable
in court. GOOD LIERS are very capable of looking good.

2. Means nothing
Polygraphs are notoriously unreliable and there is NO way they'll show him lying. This has to be rigged.

6. Lie detectors don't work very well and they are easily beaten
Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:08 PM by Caution
by anyone who does a small amount of research. How is PAX going to justify having questions about homosexual sex and prostitution on their stations? Aren't they all about "family" programming?

17. Placebo effect.
Polygraph testing does nothing but intimidate the victim. Operators are sorely mistaken if they believe they can tell truth from lies by watching the needle.

9. Just more "theatre" for the masses...
Lie detectors are unreliable... The "results" are up to the interpitation of the administrator.

See Anti-Polygraph.org and learn how to pass one.

10. The question in the last paragraph won't work on a polygraph.
They have to be one answers, only. Otherwise the reading is indecipherable.

I had to take 3 of them for a place I used to work. I told the truth on the first one and they thought I lied (it was a question they didn't care much about, luckily). On the second 2 I lied my ass off and passed with flying colors!

BTW, that company went out of business a long time ago.

11. Will he be asked about his bogus
military career as a Marine? The military background which Quantico says never existed?
I can't understand why he's never asked about that Big Lie. Just like Bush, he's a totally fake "warrior" who is all macho and warmongering...except Jeff made up his military career and Bush shirked his.
I loathe these posers.

One minute he'll say he's not going to do any more interview question's and the next minute he's all over the place. What a flipflopper!!

13. TiVo alert was Editor and Publisher's sarcastic headline, not mine.
I don't get PAX, don't care about gannon/guckert. I just think it's more egg on the face of the White House, letting this guy, who has show himself to be a complete CIRCUS GEEK, get press credentials.

15. I knew someone once who took a lie detector test
regarding whether she was embezzling funds from the college. She passed with flying colors. She thought that was the end of it. Unfortunately for her, the law enforcement officers involved and upper administration decided to believe the subpeonaed bank statements, canceled checks and faculty/staff witnesses over the polygraph. Needless to say, she was escorted off campus by the police and has found employment elsewhere ;)

23. I put about as much value in this as I would in a Larry King interview...
Remember, King refused to interview Kitty Kelly about her book in which George Jr.s' former sis-in-law revealed how he snorted coke at Camp David while Sr. was Pres., although he interviewed her when she published other books about other people...

25. why on earth would anybody believe this?
Unless they're the kind of pablum-brained person who watches PAX, I guess.

Well, unless the Dalai Lama appears on the show to guarantee in person that it's a real polygraph machine and not a toy one, this test fits the definition of "meaningless" perfectly.

(Of course, if Gannon flunks it....)
