I KNOW nothing is very funny these days and it perturbs me a lot. I've been around politics for a long time and I've never seen it this bad.

I do a lot of "heavy" reading about all the crap that's been going on, and how it's not coming to the light of day. Gimme a break, I was just trying to be sarcastically funny.

I too have "never" seen anything as bad as this - not here, not in the country I grew-up in. It's hard to lighten-up somedays.

Sarcasm aside: mixing acetaminophen (Tylenol/APAP, the reason Vicodin's the size of a horse pill) with moderate amounts of alcohol can kill your liver in 24 hours, with a slow, agonizing death to follow in about a week (without treatment). Not to be Dr. Buzzkill, but the ER does hundreds of these a day.

To reiterate: the opiates don't kill you, extra strength tylenols + vodka kills you. The tylenol isn't in there to kill people (per se), but to make the narcotic ingredient harder to purify in a lab. Or maybe it's a little of both, like Paraquat.

Maybe I've been too busy lately with my retirement-supplementing job (hadn't really intended to have to work in these my golden years, but reality is reality)--anyway, it's pretty time-consuming and I haven't been reading a lot of DU posts the way I useta, so perhaps I've missed something. Isn't this a place where we can freely express ourselves using reasonable discourse, voicing our frustrations and taking issue with others on a cross section of topics without fear of being drummed out of the corps or called really ugly names? What I have seen is spirited debate about the role of religion in public life- a pretty fucking relevant topic nowadays- and particularly where religion intersects with public policy in regards to issues such as abortion, contraception, stem cell research, the right to a dignified pain-free exit of one's own choosing, etc. etc.
