My purely suppositional theory on why Felt (Deep Throat) outed himself
He knows he saved this country.

He wants to encourage the next Deep Throat.

He wants to save the country again, but is not in a position to do so.

Just my personal theory ...... pure speculation backed up by nothing more than my imagination ......

2. The same thought crossed my mind earlier.
That he may have been doing it to motivate his successor.

4. I thinkit is somehow a deafening call -
its a signal of some sort.

Is it just to get people realizing that this Bush is viet Nam all over again?

Maybe it's a wake up call for the media.

The thing is we've already had several Deep Throats for the Bush administration, but the small cabal of corporate media owners have squelched any Watergate II.

ABC actually interrupted the Bush press conference to announce this news.

7. you're such a cockeyed optimist!
I hope you're right, and I hope it works.

How so many people on this board can still be optimistic about ANYthing after all the shit we've been through the past 5 (has it only been FIVE?) years is truly inspiring!!

13. Actually, only 4 1/2, under *. Or 11 years, counting from the time
the repubs took control of congress. Or 25 years, going back to the so-called Reagan revolution, and discounting the two years that Clinton actually controlled his own administration.

9. I hope you're right and
a lot will depend on what happens to him from here on out. Will he be demonized by the right for taking down THEIR repuke prez? Me thinks so. There's no way they will let him get away with this. He will be made to suffer. It's their way. However, the next possible Deep Throat could wait for 35 years to come forward too. Let's hope an FBI agent has a BUNCH of garbage they are waiting to unload on a reporter.

Hmmmm.....I wonder which reporter would have the guts to take on THAT story? Many have been suicided by the BFEE. :scared:

It could be true. Let's hope that the next Deep Throat is out there and taking courage from today's events.

17. The problem is that the press is cowed...so a deep throat is nearly
impossible.

You've got Paul O'neill, Richard Clarke...and few others who stepped out of the line to speak the truth...and they were systematically destroyed.

I don't think Deep Throat today can do what Deep Throat of the '70's era did anymore. Not as long as our free press is held hostage by the Corporate media.

Alas!

21. Frenchie, I agree. If we were to have a 2005/6 version of Deep Throat
it would all go down differently (no pun intended ... honest!).

But what I don't think it will be is a person coming out and speaking truth to power as O'Neill and Clarke did.

25. After the flack from the Newsweek Koran story...
would reporters be willing to take the word of a single anonymous source? I think not. I predict that this will be turned into a story about a president brought down by a vindictive anonymous whistle blower.

22. Hey Hubby to Sparkly
CBS News covered the story, and it according to their reports, Felt believed he had discredited the FBI, even as he knew he had to do something at the time. He has felt like a criminal all these years, and only revealed his identity as "Deep Throat" to his family three years ago. The family insisted on going public even though he indicated he wanted to take his secret to the grave.

But his family felt he was a hero, and perhaps wanted him to get some kudos before he died, to know how much what he did was appreciated.
The timing couldn't be better, I'd say. Perhaps it will inspire some modern day reporters and agents to take some risks.

28. Well, publishers take a long time to ready
a story for print. They would really have to stretch it to try to fit in the exact time frame as the exposure of the Downing minutes. Most magazines plan an issue six months to a year in advance, so Vanity Fair would be an unlikely co-conspirator in any coverup.

Now the MSM, and what they do with the story, are other matters altogether.
