What Sort of Family Are We?

If we as a nation are a family it is appropriate to ask; just what kind of family are we? There are those, James Dobson, who propose that we are a family with a strong father leading us.

I would counter by questioning the correctness of such a model:

What kind of father would squander his children’s future for the benefit of his wealthy friends?

What kind of father would select among his children those who would succeed and those who would fail?

What kind of father would lie to his children to further his own vision of the world?

What kind of father would encourage greed among some of his children to the detriment of his other children?

What kind of father would reward those children who shun responsibility and operate from only the motivation of greed; while striping his other children from any protection against the deprivation of the greedy child.

These are only some of the thoughts that weigh against the strong-father model that Dobson would argue that is being adhered to by the Right-wing Republicans.

This is more a model of tyranny.

If we are a family, the model would be one of empathy, justice and truth.
