What was/is your college GPA?

For those of you went to or currently go to college?

I finished with a 2.52

Had I not completely goofed off my first year, it would have been higher. But I can't honestly say I regret my freshman year. What I didn't make in grades, I more than made up for in memories. ;-)


How about the rest of you? What was yours?

And a couple of other honor societies. But I did not go to an Ivy League college, I attended a public university.

I paid for it myself and have since built up a very successful real estate investment business with my husband. I am not a trust fund "daughter" like 99% of Ivy leaguers. So? Are you?

The fact is, we make a lot more money doing what we are doing than had we used our degrees to get "jobs." Clerical skills are really not that critical to make lucrative investments.

BTW, my husband is ADD, often forgets to use spell check and is a horrible speller, worse than I am. It hasn't interfered with his success.

Obviously they don't teach humor at public universities.

I suppose I was being overly sensitive to the first classist remark. My apologies for getting defensive. ;)

Makes a difference being 30 years old and going to school

Too much coke my junior year.

After a 1.0 my first semester. And also, after six years of college. After you put yourself into a GPA hole, it's real tough to dig out. But like you, I regret nothing! Hot damn, college was fun... not that I haven't stopped ny slews of bad-yet-fun habits just because I got a degree, mind you :evilgrin:

My final (and successful) attempt took me 2.5 years and i got a 4.0.

my other attempts (totaling 3 yrs) got me the credits i needed but with an abysmal record.

First time was for nearly four years. I had about a 2.22. I went back and spent three years at about a 3.85, mostly to clean up some of the old stuff, and graduated at 3.30 -- the exact minimum needed for honors. I graduated from law school with a 3.75 -- first in my class. Eighteen years later, that and a couple of bucks, will get me a small soft drink.

but grades aren't what they used to be.

I suck at higher math. I joined Phi Alpha Theta the national history honor society.

... that was after my first try at college (right out of high school) which got me suspended for not bothering to get out of bed unless it was exam day.

it was 25 years ago, so I am not sure. I never got a D but I did have a couple of C's. I came out of a very small public high school where I never had to study and still pulled straight A's. I got to college with zero study habits. I had to learn to take notes and how to write term papers. It was quite a shock when I got a C on my first paper, the professor was pretty critical; he was right, the paper was pretty simplistic, I just didn't know what was expected.

I switched from CompSci in my Soph year.

But I had to keep my GPA up in order to keep my scholarship. So I had, shall we say, a LOT of incentive.

Of course, both my parents had bouts of cancer and I spent time as President of my fraternity. Not helping matters is that I have the constant need to play "devil's advocate", meaning if I sniff a bias in a professor, I will attack. Professors don't like being questioned so much.

But then some of my roomates thought I majored in Dungeons and Dragons with a minor in Engineering.

2.6 average currently but I'm hoping to pick it up a bit in my final year.

I'm capable of better grades but this is what happens when you dont attend class regularly.

I had issues with various math classes.:(

D in algebra, C in trig. I got straight A's in my major (psych) and minors (sociology/English). I don't know what I was thinking going for a BS instead of a BA. Oh, well, not to disparage current standards or anything, but I imagine a 3.17 from 1968 is probably more like a 3.7 nowadays.

I tried going back for physics education after practicing engineering for 8 years. Given the time away from mathematics, along with the fact that I "skated" through Calculus, Linear and Diff Eq when I was pursuing my first degree, let's just say that things didn't go so smoothly.

I've since gone back to "plan A", which was to pursue a history degree and teaching certificate. But I know how difficult physics can be, and your track is certainly very impressive!

Guess that, for better or worse, I believe "grades" reflect one sliver of a person's makeup. AND,...who cares about my grades and why would I share them?

Right out of HS (1965) and before the Navy ...... zip point shit ..... I was a party guy and had more incompletes than actual grades.

After the Navy (and a LOT of growing up), and after a change in not only schools but majors, I graduated with a 4.0.

I went back again, years later as a working adult and got another degree part time and on weekends and got a 3.9.

It's amazing the difference in attitude you have between going to college right out of high school as compared to going back later in life (I'm now 32).

Too stubborn to admit that math learning disorder would prevent me from majoring in chemistry.

I got through a four year undergrad program in slightly less than three years by taking overloads and going to school in the summer. During undergrad I worked two part time jobs. I was shocked when I saw my final GPA. I never paid attention to it during college - I just did what I could.

I had a really terrible final semester, because I dropped a class first semester of my senior year and ended up with a full caseload while I wrote my thesis. Bad times.

Grades don't mean squat, except as an arbitrary measuring stick. When I was younger I was told that the C student is most likely to succeed, because those are the people who are building relationships and networks instead of being glued to the books.

I've done 100K per grade point.

My most recent masters course was "pass" as the scottish university did
not have a GPA... fine enough by my view.... there is too much narrow
minded competition in american university thinking... as if intelligence
is relative to others and not to ones own depth of views.

Fortunately, I bottomed out early and fought back. Having a GPA <2.0 put you on probation and (IIRC) a subsequent semester with a GPA below that level got you booted out of the state university.

College debate was a killer my first year but I pulled my GPA up after I dropped debate.

I cut classes like there was a prize for doing so, goofed off unrelentingly, took procrastination to the level of high art, and was a walking pharmacy from freshman-junior years.

In my senior year, for some reason, I decided to "play the game," and ran a straight 4.0, which lifted me out of total mediocrity.

I had a lot of terrific experiences and had a blast, but the academic side of things just came too easy. That's not a boast -- believe it or not, it didn't feel that good to be able to just coast and yet still excel. :shrug:

I was an Art major, and ironically, it was my design and studio courses that I found completely engaging and challenging.

I took college seriously. I knew I'd be in trouble at home with the billpayers if I had goofed off.

Ultimately it didn't do me that much good. I became a teacher at a time when baby boomers were flooding the teaching market and the only job I could get was a piss poor one at a Catholic school for $800 a month. This was back in the late 70's.

Later decided teaching wasn't for me. Took an easy out and became a travel agent. Loved the benefits. Then quit when my daughter was born in 1993. Now I'm helping her navigate her way through a "Blue Ribbon" Middle School which is more challenging in some ways than college was back then.

University of Minnesota, class of '85. summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi.

Too bad the Master's degree is in "divinity." Damned if I feel divine nor can I remember much of the Greek and Hebrew I had to take (although I learned to touch-type in Greek and was not too shabby with Hebrew, despite the unnerving experience of watching the glyphs appear right-to-left.)

majored in partying, don't remember much. Got out of the army and returned to make a 3 point something. Big difference returning to school in your thirties as compared to the late teens. Actually thought about other things besides sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Hello to my fellow PBK's. I double majored in psychology and creative writing at UCR. I am now working on my masters in education. I will finally start teaching in the fall. I am up in debt up to my eyeballs.

that you can graduate with a 2.2 GPA. My transcript looks like the oceans, there are so many "C's" there. Too much beer, too many, now declared illegal, medicinal herbs. Like Sandpiper, I struggled for 3 years after a devastating Freshman year and a 1.6.

The good news is that 10 years later in Grad School, 3.85.

Really should have been much higher but the courses were total BS. Still teaching a bunch of mainframe stuff right when PCs were taking off. I was just ready to get out.

I attended a few classes in English 101 and dropped out. I'm looking forward to receiving an honorary degree and giving next years commencement address at Harvard!

If Bush can give an address why can't I?

It was a low 3. I was merely content to pass and have not once in 20 yrs(until now) been asked what my GPA was.
I was a single parent with 2 kids under 5 when I went to nursing school.
Went to college/clinicals M-F 8-5
Worked 16 hours on Sat and 16 hours on Sunday.
I think I would die if I did that these days.:)

Majoring in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics/statistics.

My undergraduate school (Knox College) is notorious for tough grading, our Valedictorian had around a 3.5. My 2.9 put me in the top 25% of my graduating class.

Still remember smarting from one of my electronics classes. 50 students, 1 A, then the also rans.

Final GPA - 3.1 with several semesters on the Dean's List.

which meant I took the extra honors level courses, essentially.

Unfortunately, I lost my scholarship for being in the top 1% of my high school class my first year, because it required me to retain a 4.0 average. That seemed rather draconian to me at the time, and it still does.

at any rate, I also partied some and had a great time...it was fairly balanced between fun and work.

but I have only 3 trimesters under my belt and only going part time. Just the same, not bad for a wife and mother of 2 boys with a full time job as well. Let's hope I can keep it up there.

Also just missed Summa, but did get Magna. Psi Chi Honor Society (psych major/soc minor). Full ride scholarship for my junior and senior years. Got first ever Student Award for "Spirit of the Campus." No, it's not a cheerleader award! For embodying the Jesuit ideals of leadership, scholarship, and service. Was 27 when I went to college and LOVED it.

I love this thread....while the other side seems to be proud of appearing (or actually BEING) stupid, I find that insulting. I'm not better than anyone else, but I am proud of my smarts, and I am not going to dumb myself down because that happens to be the "in thing" right now!!

in physics, math, and computer engineering (and unofficial minors in English and computer science). I took an average of 17 hours per semester (10 hours in summer), and for the last 3.5 years worked a minimum of 24 hours per week.

And, I managed to go Pi Sigma Alpha in political science.

I do enough work to get by, slack off enough to stay stress-free.

As my hero George Castanza once said: Right at the meaty part of the curve. Not showing off, not falling behind.

and the last 90 hours toward the BS were all A's. I changed majors a few times, and ended up with enough credit hours to have a PhD. That freshman year was a doozy - kind of like those who grew up in the 60's - if you remember it, you weren't there.

Double major, Math & CS in 3 years flat.

Went straight into Grad school, Held 4.0 in CS until the last semester, then my brain exploded. I coasted through my thesis defense on momentum.

I'm not sure I ever recovered (over ten years ago).

Ended up with a D.

The college degree and the high grades never did dookey for me. Given it all to do over again, I wouldn't even bother with going to college, but would have put that money into learning my trade.

I worked full time throughout college, and lived in a constant condition of exhaustion and worry. It's hard to remember now, and know that it was all for nada.

If I had done what I had wanted to do from the outset, rather than caving in to family pressure to "get a college degree", things would have been much more pleasant and productive.

Just missed Phi Beta Kapa. My majors grade point average were better. In math it was 3.89 and in Poly Sci it was 3.8

Just about right for me.

I have a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and still hold a 4.0...I think.

I generally don't even look at the grades for local classes I take, except for the 99% I got in my Cisco networking class. Sweet Jesus, it's been so long, I need to take the damn class again...that whole subnet masking thing is fading from memory. The neck problem kept me from taking the second course. :( :( :( Fuck. :( :( :(
