DUer ALERT - URGENTLY IMPORTANT - How to Support Ted Kennedy!!
Guys, this is even more important since bush has now weighed in, calling Ted Kennedy's criticism "uncivil" and voicing outrage that he dared voice suspicions that the bushies may be using lots of the unaccounted-for money now being squandered in Iraq - for bribes. Note, bush did not actually DENY this was true. His complaint stopped short of that.

CALL TED KENNEDY TOMORROW AND TELL HIM YOU'RE WITH HIM AND YOU KNOW HE'S CORRECT!!!!!

Anyway, here's what to do:

Ted Kennedy's numbers are -

in Washington: (202) 224 - 4543
in Boston: (617) 565 - 3170

PLEASE CALL his office(s) to tell them you approve of what he said and you are glad somebody of great prominence is finally telling it like it is - this war IS a "FRAUD made up in Texas." AND, that you want to know where the money's going and why so much of it, every month, is unaccounted for.

For even more fun, here are Tom DeLay's numbers -

in Washington: (202) 225 - 5951
in Texas: (281) 240 - 3700

PLEASE CALL his office(s) also - to tell them how utterly wrong he is, how Ted Kennedy is absolutely correct, and how he, DeLay, should SHUT UP! Or better yet, start WISING UP and stop this Godawful war!

I realize this is Sunday, but I wanted to extend the heads-up. This is VITALLY important! They need to hear from us! You can bet your lunch money Ted is getting bombarded with right-wing hate mail for showing spine like this. He needs to hear from us to counter balance those attacks.

Also, the toll-free Capitol Hill number is 1 (800) 648 - 3516. You can call that number and they'll switch you to anybody's office in the House or Senate.

Just do it. It's CRUCIAL!

And thanks!

4. It is just fascinating
how often the response to "outrageous" charges is not to present the facts to refute the charges, but to attack the speaker. I can't think of anything that more clearly validates the speaker's position.

18. I usually go to www.congress.org and from there
to the directory section. You type in the name of whomever you want to reach. That's how I found the local and Washington office numbers. There are links to send email messages to him. Just click on 'em and you can compose your own, or write regarding several pre-selected subjects.

Hope that helps!

Go for it!

13. Thanks for the reminder!
I'll call Sen. Kennedy's office tomorrow, to give my thanks for him standing up to Whistle Ass. I can try calling DeLay's to tell him he's scum, but I'll need a hazmat team out to decontaminate my phone afterwards.

14. Waste of time
DeLay could care less what anybody outside his circle thinks.

Ted is beyond criticism or compliments. He speaks his mind, and when he doesn't he is working behind the scenes. Politicians like Ted and Byrd don't need 'attaboys'. They are of an age and position where they don't need confirmation of their actions. They could be re-elected even if dead, and neither seek higher office. It's a freedom, and they know it and use it.

Ted is my senator, I love him. You can always count on him to do the right thing, and vote his concious.

17. Doesn't matter. Weighing in with DeLay
will rattle them a little. Especially since most, if not all rethugs are starting to become uncomfortably aware of the polls, the crescendo of news coverage and op/ed pieces that are unfriendly to them, and the increasingly vocal opposition within and outside the circle of Democratic presidential hopefuls. They ARE aware that the tide is turning. They're concerned somewhat about Howard Dean. They appear to be REALLY rattled about Wesley Clark. They're painfully aware that bush has to go eat crow at the UN, regardless of the "I was right, bow down anyway" bluster he'll be eating it with. They're undoubtedly aware of the much-anticipated David Kay WMD report that was supposed to vindicate them - which is coming up empty.

I've called DeLay's office before, thanking him essentially for being such a schmuck (well, maybe I didn't use quite that verbiage), and they sorta blew me off, too. But they're going to find that they're blowing off more and more and more people who give a damn enough to call in, and call him on it. And that, combined with everything else that's starting to cave in on them, WILL have an impact. They'll bluster and swagger, but they're scared. Things aren't working out the way they planned. And they're caught in a whole series of quagmires now.

Not only that, but many other aspects of the rethug agenda are going down in flames. Not JUST the "I want 87 billion more for Iraq" (look at the coverage lately, and the word from unnamed insiders at the White House that they're starting to worry because the election is coming up and they're reading the writing on the wall, how the folks out there and Congress both are NOT going for it - there are posts about these articles all over this board), AND Miguel Estrada finally gave up the ghost. And the FCC juggernaut was stopped. And more people are calling for more investigations. And the ten Dems are growing louder and hitting harder. And even some right-wingers are starting to hesitate about how these people are mangling their philosophical agenda. And people are pissed about the lies about the New York City air quality after 9/11.

And when bush goes crawling back to the UN, where it WILL be viewed that way, there will be protestors outside. The teflon coating is gone. There are too many fires starting for even KKKarl Rove to put out. Too many holes have broken open in the dike. Their ship is taking on water, and they're starting to fall behind in their bailing ability.

Don't give up! Because the drip-drip-drip effect is starting to build up. They're not on the ropes yet, but they're getting closer every day. The snowball has started rolling down hill.

Let DeLay smirk. Trent Lott once did, too, didn't he? So did Newt Gingrich. So did Bob Livingstone. And when Henry Hyde was so vocal in slamming Clinton's morals, all of a sudden he had to shut up fast when his own extra-marital affairs (that up-ended somebody else's marriage if I remember correctly, something Clinton never did). DeLay's days are numbered. And I suspect, deep down, he's starting to realize that. You'll know for sure when his bluster starts to become more shrill. When those schmucks start feeling cornered is when they scream and fulminate the loudest.

I'm reminded of a scene in "Jurassic Park 2" I think - where one of the lead bad guys found himself surrounded by pesky little bitty dinosaurs. They were small jumpers and they were annoying, but easily shoo'ed away. He kicked 'em aside and smirked at 'em and drove 'em off. They were pretty relentless, but in ones and twos, they weren't much of a match and he always scared them off. Until one fine day when he found himself isolated off the path in the jungle, and was suddenly surrounded by lots of 'em. They were stil small, and they were still jumping, but there were too many of them now. Then he stumbled and fell. They piled on him, and suddenly this big, gruff, muscle-bound tough-guy who'd kicked them away and sneered at them - was finished.

Tom DeLay could just be that guy. He doesn't have forever to sit there fat and sassy in "could care less" mode. He has less time than he thinks.

19. I believe Dems are missing the bigger picture here...
- Hardly anyone within the party leadership is supporting Kennedy. This is yet one more case where a brave Dem tells the truth and is left to swing in the wind by the party.

- If you want to call someone...call YOUR representatives and ask them to support him. Call or write Kennedy afterwards.

26. Called them both
I posted this elsewhere, but will post again,

I called Senator Kennedy's office this morning around 9am, and then DeLay's office in Texas, since no one answered in DC. The guy in Texas acted as if he didn't know what I was talking about, and as soon as I mentioned Kennedy's name he became rude and hung up on me. How's that for civility?

The young woman who answered the phone at Delay's Texas office was a bit taken aback when I said Delay was the most outspoken critic of President Clinton whether or not troops were in harm's way. He of all people should not engage in personal attacks against those who speak out in the same manner he did at every opportunity.

She actually thanked me for calling and said she'd pass my remarks on to him.
