media. I'm afraid it is killing our troops
The falsely bleak picture weakens our national resolve, discourages Iraqi cooperation and emboldens our enemy.

We may need a few credible Baghdad Bobs to undo the harm done by our media. I'm afraid it is killing our troops.

-- U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.) of Macon, a Vietnam combat veteran, is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

1. Please....
Now it's the media's fault that people are being killed, and this guy's a Democrat? Dwelling on the negative unfairly, when before the "the good, bad, and the ugly" was reported by the great Fox news embedded patriots/reporters? The thugs in control can't stand the truth, so they attack the messenger, and this Democrtat allows hemself to be used. I guess re-election is more important than anything. Pander to the freeper mentality of Georgians.

2. Let me rephrase this
"We may need a few credible Baghdad Bobs to undo the harm done by our media. I'm afraid it is killing our troops."

We may need a few credible journalists to undo the harm done by our president. I'm afraid Bush is killing our troops. <-- See, doesn't that sound more like the truth?

3. Article starts off against war, and ends up asking for Major Sacrifice...
even though he's a Dem...he's from Macon GA.....and the end of his article is "Flag Waving and Patriotism."

Maybe it looked good to you, also in the first paragraph....until you read further....:-(

6. When did the media acquire lethal weapons?
The media didn't send the troops to the front lines. Granted it helped them get there by telling unchallenged lies for Bush. And granted that their LACK of reporting may cost more lives than necessary because people would not tolerate what was happening in Iraq if they really knew what was going on.

My point is that the people being killed were sent into harm's way by the resolution of one George W. Bush.

BushCo is killing our troops.

BUSH LIED PEOPLE DIED

9. Way to shift the blame there...
It's not Bush. It's not Congressional support for the invasion...it's the media. The media, though Bushwhipped...didn't send troops to Iraq.
But hey...let's blame them anyway...riiight.

10. This is just SO NIXONESQUE
Another notable administration who never took the blame for anything.

Oh, sure, it's the media's fault for telling what is going on over there; everyone knows that all the Iraqui resistance watches CNN and reads the NY Times.

11. Bullshit! AK-47s are killing our troops.
RPGs, too.

That's what happens, when you stick your nose where it doesn't belong. Jim Marshall, a Vietnam veteran for chrissake, should know that all too well.

All those lazy bastards who wave their stupid little flags and call themselves patriots are killing our troops. They are giving this outrage credibility.

14. Nonsense...
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 10:25 PM by FDRrocks
Criminals sitting in the White House staring at pictures of stacked oil fields and weilding huge hard-ons are killing our troops.

Conversely, nationalist forces in Iraq are also killing our troops, because aforementioned oil perverts decided to ruin thier country with DU and destroy thier utilities (again!?!).

And this new RW argument that we are in Iraq to fight the war on terror over there rather than on our soil is sick and depraved. It shows that the people espousing the ideas take for granted that living under the star-spangled banner (and being white?!) automatically makes you better than everyone else.

Shame on the right wing. Shame on Democratic complicity. And a big SHAME on the media.

16. Last night I saw Ann Coulter...
... and she said basically the same thing, something along the lines of how the New York Times' relentlessly negative coverage of the war was what was causing us to "lose" over there, as opposed to the fact that we should never have gone over there in the first place. She even brought up the Walter Cronkite thing! But basically she said we're not losing, but if we are losing it's because of, you guessed it, the liberal media. Makes sense.

19. The same woman who wished
Terror attacks occured at the NYT building. What a surprise. This woman is a hack. Her writing is transparent, that she is attractive is a myth as far as I am concerned, and she also doesn't mind liberals being murdered.

NYT is disgraceful as well imo. They seem 'fair and balanced', which nowadays means printing fluff news and asking softball questions.

The best newspaper I know of is the Christian Science Monitor. They maintain a center perspective via diversity by having both conservative and liberal contribs, in a good balance as far as I've seen.

A paper like the UK Guardian, when it reports on US issues, is liberal. We have nothing like it in this country, at all. We have smaller liberal papers, but nothing major.

The media is supposed to be our police dog to the powers that be. The quote provided in this link was provided by a Vietnam veteran. Well, it seems to me that the much less complicit media back then, coupled with the much lower cost of producing a small paper, and the anti-war movement, ended up saving our troops.

Bush wants more money, he wants more troops, he wants more time. The toll is in the 300's right now, but it can only go up, and if Shrub and his puppeteers get thier way, we'll be thier however long he wants. And however many lives need to be spent, well, it is of no matter to these people.

17. Ga. lawmakers set for visit to Israel (old article 08/01/03)
WASHINGTON -- Three Georgia lawmakers will spend part of their August recess meeting Middle Eastern leaders and touring Israel.

Democratic Reps. David Scott, Denise Majette and Jim Marshall are among 20 Democratic House members leaving Saturday for a nine-day trip hosted by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland. The trip is being paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation, an arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.

It would be nice if these politicians could be a little less predictable, it's starting to get boring.
