3. Old Fred's a piece of work, isn't he?

I've encountered the Phelpsians on a couple of occasions, and the first encounter was quite enough for me, thank you very much. I have some well-meaning friends who think that they can be reached, but they're about the only people on God's green earth that I have written off. If someone's going to have meaningful relations with them it won't be me, I'm sorry to say.
