They read my letter on CNN AM!!
Mercy me, I think I've got the vapors!

Today's question was "Should Hilary Clinton run for Prez. in 2004?"

Here's my respnse:

Dear Jack:

I'm closer to liberal than conservative, and even I don't think Hilary should run. In spite of her political beliefs, the woman comes across as abrasive. And let's face it; personality counts more in American politics than ability. Otherwise, G.W. Bush would still be bankrupting businesses in Texas.

(my apologies to those of you who love Hilary)

2. Good idea. Slam a brilliant statesperson on being 'abrasive.' Don't bother
to factor in any positions, opinions or current political issues that MIGHT actually be relevant.

Better yet, why not just say that she's "too ambitious' as though that's a bad thing to be, when looking out for and defending the interests of the people.

We'd be FAR better off with some drunken slackard who's had everything handed to him as a silver spoon manchurian candidate.

Oh wait, we GOTS one of them!

Thanks!

ON a side note, I still refer to the asshole in chief AS the governor, since he didn't WIN the last election and was appointed. I figured his old title is still relevent.

24. Have you seen Hilary interviewed on TV ?...what abrasive?????
I've seen her several times recently, since her book came out and she comes across to me as not only intelligent, but has a great sense of humour!....She has a great, infectious laugh!....I never can understand when I read or hear stuff about her being hard or abrasive!!....That's just dumb!

7. I, for one, think it's kind of funny
Rooddood was using the stereotypical Republican tactic of sexist language and petty insults about Hilary to sneak in a more effective (and frankly, funny) zinger about Bush.

The typical right-wing doughhead is lured in by what he thinks is a Hilary attack, but then must sit with jaw agape as his Holy Chimp is again slammed by the liberal media.

It's the setup followed by the punch, and frankly I think it works.

9. What didn't you just say she was a shrill bitch?
Why hide behind 'abrasive'? She is only abrasive to the type of men who are intimidated by a smart, strong woman.

How many of you are Mike Malloy fans?

Malloy makes this guy sound kind to Hillary, and quite frankly I think Malloy's right on the money.

12. I heard Jack read it
and as much as I loved the shot at Bush, I was pissed off by calling her abrasive. A friend of mine accompanied Hillary on some of her travels when Bill was in the White House, and always spoke of her warmly and with highest regard.

Just because a woman is ambitious and successful doesn't mean she deserves to be called names.

14. flame me if you want
this is not the time for Hillary to run either as President or as Vice-President

like it or not - Hillary and Bill are the "boogie-boogie" to GOPers and those standing on the conservative-liberal line

Hillary on the ticket WILL galvanize the GOPer vote

There are alot of conservatives and GOPers out there that are leaning to dump "duhbya" - Hillary on the ticket will make them run the other way. You can see a correlation that when the media starts with the Hillary is going to run stories that the repugs start raking in even more money in campaign funds.

I am not suggesting that the DEMs go to the middle or become repug-lite, but Hillary on the ticket at this point in time would do more damage to our chances of dumping duhbya than helping

23. actually
The letter said "she comes across as abrasive." A small point, but it's not QUIET the same thing as sayign she is abrasive. (I thinks she comes across fine, as strong and intelligent, but I know there are those who don't like her manner, a legitimate concern for a politician.)

Actually he makes a valid overall point, I think Senator Clinton is probably not electable becuase of the strong emotions (ie hate, sexism and paranoia) that she inspires on the right. I'd rather have her in the Senate driving the repubs nuts than have her run for President.

15. You could have said, "In spite of her political beliefs,
she comes across as competent, confident and extremely intelligent. Those qualities in a woman candidate are still too threatening to many white male American voters." Then you could have continued with your excellent zinger against GW.

25. Hillary is abrasive?
No she's not! The slathering rabid right-wing media who are lap dogs for the BFEE and Karl Rove have characterized her like that - but they would do the same thing to Mary Poppins if they thought it would give them a political advantage.

26. It's Well Known
among Faux viewers that Mary Poppins is a hard left Labour organizer with ties to radical Trotskite dockworkers in Liverpool and that she was recently photographed by reporters for the Sun escorting the two Princes into a area of woods outside Woodstock known for pagan orgies and baby-eating.

27. Watch her with Letterman...her sense of humour is great and she has a
wonderful, infectious laugh....I think they are trying to do the same thing to her that they did to Al Gore....Repeat something often enough and people start to believe it!...They completely distorted Gore's image with their repetition that he is a liar, which he is NOT!!!

30. Settting the record straight
Fellow DU'ers, let's get this straight: I like and respect Hillary Clinton. Read carefully: "she comes across as abrasive". When it comes to politics I will always call 'em as I see 'em. I did not say she was abrasive, or that I found her abrasive, just that she comes across that way, to me.

Now for my beef: Don't ever call me a sexist. Every guy that criticizes an African-American is not a racist; every guy who criticizes a woman is not a sexist. I told my wife about my letter, and she was pissed that I ragged on Hillary. While writing this post, I told her how people were calling me sexist; that made her laugh. Of all the things I am, sexist ain't one of 'em.

31. Dood, I understood what you were getting at
It seemed to me that your major drive was getting in a good shot at Bush (which you did). The Hilary comment was just a way to get it in there.

I will say that I happen to PREFER confident, competent, and strong women, and there is no denying that Hilary is all these things. She also just happens to come off as abrasive. Not abrasive in a Barbara Bush way (read Franken's book, if you haven't already), but abrasive nonetheless.

32. Thanks Enraged...
I had my wife read everything here before she went to work and she said: "you two have something in common, you like strong confident women too!" Of course, I had to say, that "no, I don't, I just married you 'cause you're hot!" Yeah, she smacked me. Then I called her abrasive, and she smacked me again.
