If our Government isn't ASHAMED of activities at places like Abu Ghraib
Then how come we still can't see the rest of the evidence? Why are they still fighting the ACLU's FOIA requests?

If we're so proud of our behavior, why the flying philadelphia fuck can't we trumpet it from the rooftops? Why no more digital cameras?

And why does it take concerted public pressure to even get a corporate media brush-off of the DSM, yet Dick Durbin makes the exact same comments that actual concentration camp survivors have made, i.e. that behaviors like strapping people to boards and holding them underwater are the sorts of things the United States is supposed to be "better than"... and the Media is all over him like dogs on that naked guy in Abu Ghraib?

And yes, these are rhetorical questions. Grrrrr. :grr: :banghead: :grr: :banghead: :grr:

1. If it weren't for the photos the torture stories would..
still be background noise and no trials would have taken place.

3. Yeah. But at the first chance, the media dropped all pursuit of
what we were repeatedly told was "worse, far worse" evidence coming down the pike. Thankfully, the ACLU and folks like Sy Hersh have not forgotten, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day.

2. Oh, they are ashamed when they are talking to the press about it
That is when they whip out their "acts of a few" or "bad apples" comments. When it comes to affecting policy, it won't. We all know that it came from the top, but even though everything in the Gonzales memo was in those photos, they will still sluff off responsibility for it.

I think Abu Ghraib set us back a long way. It will take a while to make up for public opinion of America after that mess up. Not only that, but it put our troops in greater danger.

4. But wait- if it's only a "few bad apples" who aren't indicative of the
troops as a whole, then Dick Durbin's comments should have been welcomed. I mean, if they weren't acting on behalf of the US Military in general, then how can he be slammed for indicting "the troops" because he said that the behaviors were unacceptable and smacked of the kind of thing done by totalitarian regimes?

Unless, of course, the GOP and the Administration wants to have it both ways.

6. You got it, they want it both ways
If they get even a whiff of something good, it is their doing, a whiff of something bad, they have nothing to do with it. Even if there is DNA in the smelly poop that can be traced to them with a 1 in 200,000,000 probability that the smelly poop was from them, they will deny responsibility for the poop.

I don't know where that analogy came from, but it sure can't be sunny there!!

7. Only thing missing from your analogy:
Not only will they deny responsibility for the poop, they will publicly hang whoever linked them to the poop out to dry in an effort to scare off anyone else who might comment negatively on their poop-related activities.

5. No. Actually its proud of them
If you have a hose handy to wash off your computer, go to limbaugh's site and look at the T-shirts that are for sale.

I kid you not.

Try it.
