More guts to apologize or be stubborn like Bush and never admit a mistake?
Sorry but everyone that is trashing Durbin needs to stop. One of the major failing of Idiot Boy is that he has f*cked up repeatedly, taken no responsiblity for anything... and here comes a MAN, one of the most honest, caring, best Dems in office, that realizes his words were taken out of context and may have been offensive.. and he apologizes.

That is something Chimperor will never do and cannot do and it only elevates Durbin in my eyes for him to take such an honest and responsible step.

The video is at http://www.dembloggers.com/

1. It takes more courage to apologize.
However, Durbin has not been stubborn like Little Boots. This is one incident where Durbin is right, and when the Pentagon releases the new photos (and videos) he will be proved right.

I don't think he should have apologized because the right wing never apologizes for their horrid Nazi references against the left, and Durbin was dead-on in his assessment of the problem.

Good question, though. A shame we don't have anyone in the media who would address that to a national audience.

2. Nonsense. "his words were taken out of context..."
One should NEVER apologize for something they did not do, nor apologize for speaking the truth.

Bullshit.

3. Apologize for doing something wrong
Don't apologize is you haven't done anything wrong.

6. Durbin caved.
He was correct in his statement. He should have said to the attack: "I am sorry that people have chosen to twist what I said to suit their own agenda. What I said stands. Amerika has to be better than what is has in the recent years. We cannot in any way condone abuse and torture. Amerika must abide by the GC and Intl. Law. I will continue to fight for what is correct. Thank you."

9. Yes, though Im not sure I can fault him
Not too much anyway. He does have a career to think about, and the attack machine can do some damage if he doesnt circumvent it.

11. Guantanamo is not Auschwitz. It's Guantanamo.
The comment threw the focus off Guantanamo and onto Durbin. He made a mistake. He apologized. Now back to the attack.

5. To not be perfect is to be human. As opposed to being a machine.
But it is all about the news clips. Bush does not ever want to be seen apologizing. Neocon Utopia is always perfect. Except for anything they have ever tried.

7. No argument here, except: What was Durbin's mistake?
Is Camp X-Ray not reminiscent of a gulag or Nazi camp?

8. He didn't apologize for that... he apologized for his words taken out
of context that were cast by the Republicans to imply that he was disrespecting the troops. He nowhere said that he took back what he said about Gitmo Bay-that was not the mistake.

And, as far as Republicans are concerned, they're assholes. Polls show that the American public realizes this-they have lower numbers than Democrats. People don't trust them, don't think they're doing a good job. The fact that they (like that jerk Hostettler yesterday) can't apologize doesn't make a fine Democrat wrong for wanting to ensure his remarks, DELIBERATELY MISCONSTRUED AND TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT AS THEY WERE with regard to the troops, would be taken the right way, as he meant them.

first tells Bush he's wrong, then tells the President he's wrong . . .
