Comments to the DNC (long)
I sent this to them a few minutes ago. I'm so sick of the repuke crap going on and I can't take it anymore.

*******

I read the papers, watch the news and surf the net. I stay on top of politics and the activities of our government. I've watched with heartache how our government has become less than what it once was and I've watched our military abused and neglected by this irresponsible administration. It's disturbed me a great deal when the times we needed the Democratic Party the most, they were nowhere to be found.

The latest was in regards to the comments made by Dick Durbin. They were twisted and used against him. What he said became some sort of hypocritical rallying cry for the republicans to put unrelenting pressure on him. It was easy to do. They knew no democrat would stand up for the man. They knew no democrat would get on the airwaves or in the papers to defend what he said and the truth of it.

The opportunity to show the travesty of detainees caught in the black hole this government put them in was shoved aside in favor of attacking a man who was attempting to show the inhumane treatment and shed more light on what needs to be done so we do not become what we most despise.

Instead we get republican after republican going after him and using those remarks to inflame the country. This was done on right wing radio, on television, the newspapers and on the internet. It was a deliberate campaign to discredit and malign a good public servant who loves this country.

When no one stands up against this kind of dirty politicking it only encourages even more. Democrats become the doormat for being immoral and unpatriotic. Few Democrats make news when they use Pollyannaish language in hopes of not offending anyone. We’ve become impotent to such a degree that this party is not taken seriously.

No one calls on the republicans or this administration on their callous and uncalled for remarks. Mr. Santorum has used such language himself on the senate floor. Vice President Dick Cheney was given a free pass for his disgraceful expletive to Leahy some time ago. When no one steps up to chastise this unprofessional conduct no one should be surprised that it continues. Even Bush has upped the rhetoric by calling the democrats ‘obstructionists’ for their attempts to stop an unqualified and questionable man from becoming UN ambassador. On the floor of the representatives democrats were accused of demonizing Christianity and the one who said it was censured for it. This DID NOT make the news as Mr. Durbin’s apology has. This has got to stop. They are the ones making news when it benefits them and hurts the Democratic Party.

We may have diverse opinions and it should be that way because that is what our party is. We don’t have the need to be in lockstep to one cultish-like voice with no dissent allowed. I celebrate our party’s diversity because that is what America is.

I have two daughters and one son. Several years ago when my girls were playing outside with their friends, one of them was hit rather hard. My older daughter stepped up and shoved the one who hit her sister. I loathe violence, but I was pleased to see my older daughter stand up for her sister. Yes, she was smaller, but even when they are at their worst they stand up for each other. They are sisters and love each other. They won’t let someone hurt the other and when it happens, will defend each other.

When I was a kid there was a boy who would bully my cousin and me. This happened for quite a while and when we did nothing…he continued. At some point my cousin and I had to stand up and fight back. We did and he stopped. After that he played by the rules and no longer bullied us.

This is what needs to happen with the Democratic Party. Not everyone will agree on politics, but the time for taking these attacks has got to stop. How will the republicans learn that they can’t bully us, malign us or walk all over us? When are we going to get our act together to fight back?

This isn’t about issues. This is about what’s right. This is also about loyalty, friendship and trust. The republicans do not own the rights to the moral high ground and it’s high time they learn that. If they can fight, why can’t we fight back just as hard?

Why can’t Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and other big name democrats come out and fight? The republicans aren’t fighting for us and I want to know why aren’t the democrats fighting for us?
