I think ANYONE who wants to join the armed forces should be able to - rega
regardless of age, gender, education, sexual preference, etc. The only ones that couldn't serve are the ones that a doctor considers unfit.

I'm 61 and could not fight, but I sure can peel a mean potato for those who do have to fight - so they will have something to eat. (I am not volunteering - just making my point)

This will help all the Republicans who are for the war be able to join right up. No more excuses for 95% of them.

I think this is a wonderful idea.

1. It would be nice if it were so simple
but I prefer some standards and not have some doofus off the street with the intelligence of a brick.

With recruiting numbers so dismal I do worry about how much they are dropping their standards.

2. Even a doofus with the smarts of a brick can mop the floor, set the
table, mow/rake the area and a lot of other non-brain work.

8. They still are trained to fight and kill.
You can't just bring in anybody no matter how you slice it.

9. "....some doofus off the street with the intelligence of a brick."
Guess what, the doofus factor has been part of the military for some time now. As long as that doofus is trained to know which end of the rifle the bullet comes out of, that's pretty much the most important
aspect.

Standards in the military dropped when Abu Ghraib became public, it's not only a question of standards the military is required to have integrity as well. From the taking of hostages, to torture, to cold blooded murder, to the fake "Pat Tillman died a hero" story, the standards of the US military reached well below the doofus level.

Hell at this point enlisting "some doofus off the street with the intelligence of a brick", would be an improvement in some cases.

All they want now is robots to follow orders without questions, and if you kill an unarmed prisoner, don't worry, after all it was self defense, at least that's what the general will say!!!!

3. I also think anyone who votes for war has to have a
loved one serving or already have served in a war.

You can bet there would be alot less unnecessary bs wars.

4. Unfortunately
Halliburton is charging $100 per potato, and then hiring Paki Nationals to do the work for $300 a month.

5. most of the grunt work is outsourced to private companies today
Halliburton or KB&R have those contracts sewed up. I bekieve outsourcing costs taxpoayers more because of fraud and overbilling.

7. And provide comfort and support to the perpetual war machine???
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 02:23 PM by greatauntoftriplets
No!!!! Aside from the federal income taxes withheld from my paycheck (and which I rationalize as ending up in the paycheck of my friend the VA psych nurse), I will not work to further the goals of this government.

My :loveya: left too much of his hide and saw too many of his friends' insides strung out over concertina wire in Vietnam at the age of 19 for me to play any role in this tragedy. Plus, I agree with Rick Myers' post...a major goal is the enrichment of Bush/Cheney donors.

Edited to spell Rick Myers' name correctly.
