100 More Photos And Several Videos Of Abu Ghraib Torture Coming SOON!
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 04:02 PM by DistressedAmerican
In another week, we will see a shit storm that made the original leaking of the photos look mild. When the public sees more of what is happening in the American Military Gulags they will be revolted. The support for the war will be rapidly eroded even further.

This could be the final straw folks!

Think this war is not popular now?

On June 30th, the real battle to end the war begins.

Let's not miss this (I hesitate to use the word as I do not want to diminish the abuses) "opportunity" to shove these photos right up their asses!

Ask over and over why the ACLU had to sue the government to force release of the photos and videos and demand the release of the remaining 1,000 of so photos and videos.

Let's end this obscene war once and for all!

Make these assholes pay for the crimes they have committed and ordered committed!

On Edit: Most of the country is totally unaware that these things are coming out. Boy will they all be freaking surprised!

NOW is the time to strike and strike hard against this illegal and immoral war!

Old graphic but still appropriate:

60. au contraire. the first set was RELEASED
but most media sources only published a few edited images. they became iconic; the hooded prisoner, lyndie england's thumbs-up, the naked pyramid, the dog attack. but no iraqi penises were seen. can't have that. the full set you had to search for, and be a self-loathing glutton for guilt to view.

america collectively said "don't make me look! there are children somewhere! that's just a few bad apples, not the result of policy! we're good, we're #1! jesus told me so! lets go buy some chinese crap so they can buy unocal & all our oil contracts can be diverted to china!"

this time, like the DSM, its old news, and those "bad apples" have been punished.

Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 03:58 PM by atreides1
Before you start making predictions on how the American people will react, it would be best to wait for the release of the photos and videos.

I have a bad feeling that the hard core supporters of Bush and his war, will justify the actions taken at Abu Ghraib. They will spin it
by saying that what was done, needed to be done to keep Americans from fighting terrorists here in the streets of the U.S.

So, I think I'll go ahead and wait to see what the reactions to these new photos and videos will be, before I put any faith in the brain dead, kool-aid drinking sheep, to admit that this is wrong.

I would be certain that they have their spin masters
working on a way to smear the source that reveals the
documentation as well as a campaign to paint
anyone who voices outrage about it as an unpatriotic terrorist.

Next up more develpoments in the disappearance of Natalie Holloway."

erased or "degraded" or denied ever existed, and photos will be labeled as "old news", and because they are graphic will never be shown on TV, so the public will never see or hear any of it. Story will be dead in 4 days. That said, I hope nothing from the above will happen.

They can break the law and not release them, but that's a whole new contraversy in itself. If they do that, then we can use it as leverage AND get the tapes released. Plus more likely than not there'd be leaks.

Lots of people have seen the tapes and pictures. Dem congressmen. Kerry, for example.

I know it does not look like it would have anything to do with this, but read the whole thread. Look at the new censor rules. Does this apply? If it does, we will never see the photos, and it would make it illegal to pass them around. Does this apply?

I'm not at all trying to be a smart ass, but wouldn't S&M photos qualify under this? The pictures had them dressed up in hoods. Do the new rules apply only to the website? And if it only applies to that web-site why did the federal government feel the need to censor it? It doesn't make sense to me. Why would they censor it? And wouldn't that apply to all web activity? Please, I'm just looking for a reason why they put these censor laws together if it does not serve them in some way.

24. Who is going to release these photos and tapes?
We how know the "when," but who is releasing them? That answer would help to establish whether the pics will be released without bias or meddling from some Bush-cheerleading Corporate Media.

I have to say that if one of the Whoreth Estate has these images, they either won't be released or in such a way as to lessen the impact. The images may even be altered or "damaged" in a way as to have less impact than the previous release.

I simply don't trust the Corporate Media on this.

Have been getting our asses kicked. I am so fucking sick of hearing how we will never make progress! "Oh, the media will just bury it.", " Rove is too damn well connected.", Etc.

As long as you conceded defeat rather than trying to energize the movement, you have already lost and are working to demoralize the rest of us!

Who does that help? The movement? No! Bushco? Yes!

ROVE IS NOT ALL POWERFUL! BUSHCO CAN'T PULL THIS SHIT FOREVER! THEY WILL BE STOPPED AND IT IS PEOPLE LIKE US THAT GET THE JOB DONE! NEVER FORGET THAT!

33. Framing the issues.
Whether or not these "new" photos surface on the RW Corp. Media or not or they will be softened is not the issue. The issue is still the illegal Invasion of Iraq and that the Bush Regime lied to the Congress about WMDs. That is a Crime! Impeachment is required to go forward. I am still of the belief that conclusive proof will surface from the CIA &/or the Pentagon that will force the House to start the Impeachment process. This is the issue that should be focused upon. Everything else: Distractions.

43. Yes, DA, we cannot act like victims!
We have the world on our side. It's patriotic Americans and the world against Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Rice and the other neocons.

They have committed crimes against humanity and laughed it off.

The Bush Regime has kidnapped European and Canadian citizens from their homeland and taken them to Gitmo and elsewhere to be tortured.

They have refused UN permission to inspect Gitmo since 2002. They're fed up.

Iraqis have stated they want us to leave their country. It's a 115 damn degrees there and they have no electricity or water. Our money earmarked for reconstruction is lining the pockets of Halliburton.

American citizens, except for the neocon crazy fundies, are fed up according to all the polls.

Generals are speaking up and saying the war cannot be won.

Many Republicans are fed up and speaking out.

We, along with our Dem leaders, must keep standing up, keep speaking the truth, and never, ever apologize for calling Bush (the "giggling murderer") and his Klansmen Nazis or whatever label fits.

48. Help me with my conflicted feelings - if the pics show CHILDREN
If the pics involve children (which we're told that they DO)-- then I am going to have powerful and conflicted feelings about their images being distributed (even if faces or genitals are blurred out).

I DO want the world to see the eyes and expressions of those children and know what atrocities occurred, AND YET -- I also don't want any pedophile or other type of creepazoid getting his jollies off the images. These poor human-beings were abused enough, as we will soon see.

I don't know about any of it.

I also think that sickos who are always searching for snuff (death on video) junk, will also get their jollies from viewing the videos (since we've been told they show murders). Those victims being murdered over and over (when the videos are shown) which could somehow diminish its importance. Kind of like what happened by seeing the planes fly into the Towers, and then watching them crumble over and over and over somehow cheapened the situation, and possibly desensitized some people to the horror.

I am probably not saying this right, so please don't flame. Instead help me figure this out. I know that we have to see the images, that they have to be released -- I just don't want the victims further exploited or worse, (for some crazy freeper to photo-shop the images in some crazy way).

Thanks for reading, anyway.

52. they should be shown with the faces hidden
As horrible as it is for the victims, the people need to know that torture did take place and that we're hurting innocents in Iraq. Its not just a few bad apples and it was not just blowing off steam and it was not about terrorists.

We need a long hard look at ourselves as a country. We need to ask ourselves how we got here.

62. You Make A Lot Of Good Points. I Thought The Same About
the first set that came out. That there were sicko fucks getting off on it. Fortunately these freaks are a very small percentage of the population. That ultimately is the reason they must be released so that the rest of the country (and I'm talking about large percentages) can get their minds around thae fact that they were not just putting panties on people's heads.

Additionally, there is the issue of accountability. These leaders must be made accountable for their actions. These photos along with things like DSM are crucial evidence of the crimes that have been committed. For that reason they should ALL be released.

Good and thoughtful post!

49. Wow. The are entering into this in a weak position w/ polls
I read some comments about what's in those tapes and almost started to cry. I can't even imagine what those women and children were going through.

The ultimate irony is that we demonized Saddam. The echo chamber (Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly) kept bring up over and over and over again about rape rooms and torture chambers with Saddam.

Now look at us. We're the ones with rape rooms and torture chambers (raping boys...I never even heard of Saddam ordering such a thing). And those guys have the NERVE to call the IRC and Amnesty International anti-American and/or subversive. Wasn't it Rush who was calling torture just blowing off some steam? Sodomizing screaming boys was just 'blowin' off some steam'?

Now who's the monster? Saddam sitting in prison eating cool ranch doritos and handing out relationship advice or our side raping women and children and beating people to death.

Saddam is not a good guy, don't get me wrong. But we attacked an unarmed nation illegally to steal its oil and torture its citizens (incl women and children).

Exactly how will these idiots rationalize this?

54. Before Release, they are being "edited"
Judge tells Army to release Abu Ghraib pictures
100 images, videos by soldier who took photos that set off scandal
Updated: 8:31 p.m. ET June 2, 2005NEW YORK - A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Army to release more than 100 photographs and several videos taken by an American soldier relating to prisoner abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, according to court documents.

Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan late Wednesday ordered the Defense Department to process 144 photographs by June 30.

The photographs and videos, to be edited so the faces of soldiers are not shown, were provided by Sgt. Joseph Darby, whose photos set off the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal more than a year ago.

Hellerstein gave the government 10 days to estimate how long it would take to edit four videos, also to be handed over.

The order came in response to a Freedom of Information Act suit filed in 2003 by civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, regarding treatment of U.S.-held prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay.

The government declined to comment on the order, but had argued that turning over the documents would violate the Geneva Convention because soldiers could be identified.

ACLU attorney Amrit Singh said, “These documents reveal that the torture of detainees in U.S. custody was widespread and systemic. They underscore the need for an independent investigation into which government officials were ultimately responsible for the abuse.”

She said many documents were still being withheld.

“This is just a fraction of what remains to be litigated in this case,” she said.

More than 36,000 documents have been released so far to the ACLU, who has filed suit against several government departments, including the CIA, FBI and Department of Justice.

55. They Are Reported to Depict Murder, Rape, Child Sodomy...
Kids sodomized at Abu Ghraib, Pentagon has the videos - Hersh
by Gryn
Wed Jul 14th, 2004 at 20:33:32 PDT

(From the diaries -- kos)
Seymour Hersh says the US government has videotapes of boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
"The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher."

This is a summary of Hersh speaking at the ACLU 2004 America At A Crossroads conference according to EdCone.com (via Oliver Willis). I verified by watching the video myself (it starts at 1:07, the "worse stuff" part starts at 1:30).
There's more bad stuff in here, read Ed Cone's summary.
from the Daily Kos:

I'll try transcribing some of the more important bits.

Some of the worse that happened that you don't know about, ok. Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read they were passing letters, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib which is 30 miles from Baghdad <...>
The women were passing messages saying "Please come and kill me, because of what's happened". Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror it's going to come out.

It's impossible to say to yourself how do we get there? who are we? Who are these people that sent us there?

Chilling.

(I transcribed some of his speech from this streaming site. Hersh starts at about 1:07:50.)

He called the prison scene "a series of massive crimes, criminal activity by the president and the vice president, by this administration anyway?war crimes."

The outrages have cost us the support of moderate Arabs, says Hersh. "They see us as a sexually perverse society."

Hersh describes a Pentagon in crisis. The defense department budget is ?in incredible chaos,? he says, with large sums of cash missing, including something like $1 billion that was supposed to be in Iraq.

"The disaffection inside the Pentagon is extremely accute," Hersh says. He tells the story of an officer telling Rumsfeld how bad things are, and Rummy turning to a ranking general yes-man who reassured him that things are just fine. Says Hersh, "The Secretary of Defense is simply incapable of hearing what he doesn?t want to hear."

The Iraqi insurgency, he says, was operating in 1-to-3 man cells a year ago, now in 10-15 man cells, and despite the harsh questioning, "we still know nothing about them...we have no tactical information.?

He says the foreign element among insurgents is overstated, and that bogeyman Zarqawi is "a composite figure" hyped by our government.

The war, he says, has escalated to "fullscale, increasingly intense military activity."

Hersh described the folks in charge of US policy as "neoconservative cultists" who have taken the government over, and show "how fragile our democracy is."

He ripped the supine US press, pledged to bring home all the facts he could, said he was not sure he could deliver all the damning info he suspects about Bush administration responsibility for Abu Ghraib.

57. Details please. I'm out of the loop on this one.
What is the source and basis for this story? Who is releasing photos and videos? Why a week from now and not now? Is it forced by some court? Who sued to force it? What is known, and how is it known, about what these pictures will show? Who has the pictures now? How did they come about? Who has seen the pictures? Any links to news stories, blogs, whatever with any of these details?

67. Dear God/dess... just the thought of this...
... horrifies, sickens & angers the begeezus out of both my husband and I. The first batch were absolutely horrible but women and children being raped, sodomized and tortured... by our soldiers... what kind of country are those neo-con BEASTS trying to turn this country into? It sure as heck bares no resemblance to what our fore-parents dreamed of, fought for and died for over 200 years ago.

This is not the country I grew up loving. For the last 8 or nine years (since the whole Clinton persecution nonsense) I feel like I've been trapped in some weird nightmare but increasingly I feel like I've woken up in some horrifying wild "Bizarro" American that is an abhorrent perversion created by some sick warped and ANTI-Christ neo-con PIGS.

We need to end this nightmare and take back our country. Throw everything we have against these beast turds out there for ALL Americans to SEE and keep it up... don't let up on the media.. don't give up and do NOT flippin' apologize for being RIGHT and speaking out.
