* is having a press conference this afternoon?
Did anyone else hear this? Turned on CNN and they said *he* was having a press conference to put these SOTU questions to rest once and for all. Jeff Greenfield said he thinks *he* is going to do the buck-stops-here line, which they hope will shut everyone up ... or words similar. I just woke up and it was the first thing I heard. Can anyone confirm that it is indeed *?

1. any chance this is related to the TIME cover
I mean, he's got to do something, and do it fast.

Like resign.

So who do you think will be the first Republican to announce he's running against bush.

the WH Press, in the last Press Conference, was about as pathetic as can be. Remember the softball questions and not ONE question about the economy or anything non-pro Iraq war?

12. The heat is on the press. . .
I don't think they are gonna lay down this time. They smell blood, besides there is no Ari to intimidate them. I know its Bush's* press conference and the spokesperson is not in charge but I think Ari had a little intimidation working for him that this knew guy won't have yet and if the press comes out swinging he will never have. Lets make sure Helen gets a seat and gets called on!

26. Not this Press corp...
This WH press corp, in general, has NEVER challenged this president on ANYTHING.

I don't think today will be any different.

Chimp will slam the door during his opening statement.

Expect ONE good question, maybe Terry Moran, and the rest will be softballs.

Let's hope otherwise but keep expectations LOW.

over substance--Look forward to more of the "Africa-style" repsonses from the Shrub, except better written. They'll stick to the script Rummy and Condi laid out this weekend. Their aime is to delay and delay, at this point, since the end is becoming inevitable.

19. The questions are screened...
Rove is not stupid, evil yes, but not dumb.

He wouldn't be holding this press conference if he didn't have a good script for the chimp-in-chief.

Also, the press ARE whores to the administration. There WILL be a question about it but it will be phrased the way Rove WANTS it phrased.

Reporters in the WH press corps like their perks of access - the wrong question and they have to explain to the parent company why they can't get the "story."

I hope I'm wrong.

right now the WH press corps is eagerly putting on it's lipgloss and knee pads and getting ready to service this administration in its usual way.
In the off chance HOPE that this would actually BE an news conference --live and unscripted and asking the REAL questions -- I'd be tempted to watch.....unfortunately the only thing I usually get from these press-fests is an unclean feeling of near-pornographic vouyerism................ick

Haven't there only been like 2 of them? I can't believe people aren't holding this guy accountable. Once a year, the pres gets before the people in a bullshit scripted event and people are satisfied? I wonder what the record for least amount of press conferences was before chimpy McCokespoon took over? I really doubt any previous President did any less than 4 per year. I remember his first attempt at one, after he called for the eradication of cocoa in Columbia, fLIEscher came out and said; "Yeah, we won't be doing that anymore, NO FURTHER QUESTIONS!". Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

23. Helluva chance
I think they're taking a helluva chance putting him before the cameras without a script. He's not very good thinking on his feet.

My guess is that he'll make an initial statement that will be either a bombshell (accepts Tenents resignation) or a red herring(Ultimatum to N. Korea) to divert the attention of the press corps.

I think you're right -- that's the Rove/Bush SOP. When things get too hot, change the subject!

You know what that reminds me of? The South Park episode where Chef hires Johnny Cochran to depend him in court. Rove is a master of the "Chewbacca Defense".

The Achordate Press Corp could evolve a spine before our very eyes.

This White House is in trouble. They need the press corp to try and deflect that troubel. If the Press Corp is smart they will realize this and the threat of removal of access no longer will exist.

47. However, Condi is out there saying "the sixteen words"
were technically accurate. The Brits are responsible. Therefore, why should the *boy king have to take responsibility. The problem is that we are so dense we just cannot understand it.

On an aside, I am sick of hearing the "sixteen word" defense. Clinton's eight word denial of "sexual relations" was legally correct, and he was impeached.
