Kill Sesame Street and the rest of it. PBS/CPB has finished it's Glory!

It's been eroded by the "Think Tanks" and "Old Money Family" for decades. When the tide was coming in "Liberal" it went with the flow..but when Clinton was inaugurated it went with Gwen Iffil and a bunch of Wall St. Whores on the News and started to buy more heavily from the BBC.

What they hell they did with our "donor money" and the "taxpayer" money I don't know. I'm sure they have excuses. But...kill it. Let's get our own media in the "National Public Time Slot." We might have to legislate to do it and the RW Judges are there...but why not kill it off.

What did Sesame Street ever do for enlightening kids into the Corrupt Government they would be facing in today's world.

Much as I loved the dawn of "Sesame Street" and the old "Electric Company' it seems we raised a Generation of the Brain Dead and Poltically Illiterate that KKKarl Rove and that Idiot Chimp have mangaed to use and abuse now for two decades.

Kill it... let something else arise like a Phoenix from the Ashes. I'm sick of it. It's been taken over by the Corporte Whores/Think Tanks so that who knows what the hell the are preaching us these days.

PBS was never really public. Running on voluntary donations from well-off people and corporations isn't 'public'.

were far from being "well off." Anyway, how else could they have stayed on air without donations. I think its somewhat unfair to blame them for making people of my generation idiots. (i am 21) I think stuff like Sesame Street was a good alternative growing up compared to a lot of the other crap I could have watched as a kid. Even if there WAS political stuff on, I wouldn't have been interested in watching it when i was younger. I think it is the parents who are to blame for the people my age don't care about politics or vote stupidly for Bush. I'm from a really conservative small town that voted almost exclusively for Bush and a lot of the Bush supports my age are so b/c they grew up w/ their parents telling them Republicans = good & Democrats = evil. Either that or their parents aren't interested in politics themselves so all they have to listen to is their best friend whos parents happen to be conservative idiots.

I understand because I gave to them also and even though my post is harsh...I'm sad to see them go. They could have done better...is what I'm saying..and if they can't with this new Repug Head in place then it's time to rethink.

Much of PBS programming is still invaluable. My God, if all I had left were the MSM and what passes for pathetic local programming, I'd go insane. If there was even a chance we could get our own media, I'd still disagree. There's no reason we can't have both. I wasn't aware we could only have one. Killing PBS would be a huge mistake. I, for one, am glad it's been given a reprieve.

see cable because not everyone can afford it..but the Networks do nothing for kids that I can see, even though it was mandated by the Government. I hear "sports programming" now counts as the quota the FCC mandates. :-(

Sure, we watched our fair share of other networks, but Sesame Street and Between the Lions were very helpul to our boys.

The quality, for the most part, is crap, with few exceptions. Then you have to deal with the hyper commercials exploiting your kids. The only thing close to it is channels like Nick Jr, but even they are on cable, which some kids can't afford. I just don't trust commercial TV to take PBS's place in terms of quality. The only TV my kids watch is PBS.

House won't cut public broadcasting funds

June 23, 2005 | Big Bird and National Public Radio won a reprieve Thursday as the House restored $100 million that had been proposed as a budget cut for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The 284-140 vote demonstrated the enduring political strength of public broadcasting, whose supporters rallied behind popular programs such as "Sesame Street," "Postcards From Buster" and "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer."

The Public Broadcasting Service undertook a high-profile campaign to rescind the proposed cut. Lawmakers were flooded with letters and phone calls.

The vote came as the House worked on a $142.5 billion spending bill for health, education and labor programs for the budget year beginning Oct. 1.
