5. the missing boy story was of interest to me although they overdid it as
there are lots of missing kids of all races.

11. I was really kidding about voting for the Utah boy story...
Human interest stories are good.

Cancelling the news -- the reporting of the facts I need to maintain my freedom and be a responsible member of a democratic society is bad.

The fact that more people like the human interest stories than hard news does not relieve journalists of their responsibility to report the news.

I long for the days when the news bureau of any TV channel was known to be the money looser - and that was fine. I actually remember when the CBS News 'tagline' was (paraphrasing) 'we tell you the news you need to know, not the news you want to hear.'
