Clark : "I would have been a Republican" actually More media LIES
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 09:38 PM by Dr Fate
Remember the DU arguments about Clarks supposed ties to Rove- turns out we were all duped by anti-DEM LIES. I keep telling y'all we need to WATCH OUT for the anti-DEM propaganda...What- do you think I'm making this shit up???

Wingers Having Trouble Coordinating Anti-Clark Lies

MWO Whore of the Year 2001 Howard Fineman writes:

WORD WAS THAT Karl Rove, the president’s political mastermind, had blocked the idea. Clark was furious. Last January, at a conference in Switzerland, he happened to chat with two prominent Republicans, Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and Marc Holtzman, now president of the University of Denver. “I would have been a Republican,” Clark told them, “if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls.” Soon thereafter, in fact, Clark quit his day job and began seriously planning to enter the presidential race—as a Democrat. Messaging NEWSWEEK by BlackBerry, Clark late last week insisted the remark was a “humorous tweak.” The two others said it was anything but. “He went into detail about his grievances,” Holtzman said. “Clark wasn’t joking. We were really shocked.”

So was four-star General Clark humorously tweaking or not?

The Weekly Standard's Matthew Continetti unwittingly answers the question:

In the current issue of Newsweek, Howard Fineman reports Clark told Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and University of Denver president Mark Holtzman that "I would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls."

"Howard Fineman reports" should be one's first clue to disregard the information in the article. That his sources were two Republicans should be one's second clue.

Unfortunately for Clark, the White House has logged every incoming phone call since the beginning of the Bush administration in January 2001. At the request of THE DAILY STANDARD, White House staffers went through the logs to check whether Clark had ever called White House political adviser Karl Rove. The general hadn't. What's more, Rove says he doesn't remember ever talking to Clark, either.

Now, if General Clark's comment, which he did not deny making, were not "schtick," why would he make such a remark to two people if he never made calls to be returned, and thus would not be expecting "returned calls"?

It must be because Wesley Clark is a deeply disturbed and delusional man, just like Al Gore.

Poor Wingnuts. They're in a state of utter panic and it isn't becoming. Why can't they be a little more gracious in the face of impending defeat?

6. Well, they don't want to make rules like that
I respect the free speech attitude. I have been amazed by the apparent gullibility of a lot of the posters on the anti-Clark threads, though. They seem to buy anything that's out there, hook, line and sinker. Of course, some of them no doubt have reasons of their own but even so, if we're buying into every rightwing originated rumor about any candidate, it's pretty sad.

9. You are right...
...I am not only frustrated by the gullible who still somehow believe the media, even after all the Iraq LIES, but by the posters who still bash DEMS despite their knowledge of media bias against us DEMS and our candidates...!!!...

DU- come ON guys! We used to be a TEAM!!!

8. Though I don't support Clark
I am super glad to hear this news.

I would love to see Dean getting the poll recognition of Clark, its true, and I may be a little envious :-)

But I am very happy to hear that this story about a Dem frontrunner is bogus. What Dem wouldn't be overjoyed?

10. Clark admits he said it, but claims it was a "joke"
wow, what a strong defense. too bad Nixon didn't think of that. he was just joking when he told the plumbers to break in to the watergate hotel, right? well, in my opinion that's no defense. if it was a "joke", it's not very funny coming from a man who until 2 weeks ago steadfastly refused to name his party affiliation; who voted for Nixon and Reagan; and who fundraised for the repubs in 2001. it trivializes and insults the dem party.

just because info is not favorable to Clark doesn't mean it's a lie. Clark is an opportunist, pure and simple.

11. LINK?
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 10:37 PM by Dr Fate
I have not seen that quote- LINK?

"Clark told Fineman he had just been kidding around. But Owens and Holtzman assured Fineman that Clark was dead serious."

Sounds like more BULLSHIT to me. This- from the same media that assured us there were WMDs and that all DEMS are "communists" AND who calimed there was a "phonecall" in the first place!!!

What about that phone call anyway???

Funny- why no mention from Fineman about this claim of a "joke"? or is the whole thing just more typical Bush/media LIES???

Lets hear what Clark says and not what the lying media says...

12. Are you intentionally spreading LIES????????
Please explain why you failed to print the entire quote in context- was it an accident or an intentional effort to Bash DEMS???????

"Now, Owens is a Republican and he's close to Karl Rove and President Bush. So I don't think you've got to use your imagination too creatively to see what agenda Owens might be advancing -- especially since the story doesn't really add up on several other counts as well."

In other words- Owen's(Karl's friend)word is highly suspect- yet you saw it fit to leave that part of the article out of your opost- why would a Democrat do this???

Sorry Mods, but I'm sick of this shit.

14. Whoever You're Talking To
Is on my Ignore list. You have to be very high on the anti-Clark scale, and/or very low on the rationality scale, to make it onto my Ignore list.

Sadly, I'm still up to about 14 people.
