Dear Applicant and Reader,
Thank you for applying for the Associate Editor position at
TPMCafe. I wanted to write tonight to tell you that I've hired
another applicant.
I'm far more accustomed to being on the other side of this sort of
letter. But I wanted to tell you that we got more than 200
applications for this position. And after I'd gone through all 200+
of them I was even more regretful than I was at the outset that I had
only barely enough money to hire one person.
The Internet needs more of the sort of dogged and persistent
investigative journalism and muckraking that the established papers
and networks just don't or perhaps can't provide today. In the
future I'd like to build up a small staff of researchers and writers
for the new site who will do just that. For the moment, I
can't. But in the future I hope to be hiring for some of those
additional slots.
Until then, I hope you'll continue visiting the site and participating.
Thank you again for your interest and time.
Best,
Josh Marshall
This is probably one of the nicest rejection letters/emails I've ever recieved, LOL. Its true however, and I think it was a good thing to do. Marshall has class man.
