September 11th Question
Here's a catch-all question about September 11th: Do we actually know anything about it?

We're coming up on the fourth anniversary in a couple of months. Do we know who was behind the attacks, or their motivation? We were told within hours that bin Laden did it. And we were told why - they were jealous of our freedom.

The question is what we actually know. It seems like we know about as much as we did on the afternoon of the day in question.

1. We know that Iraq and Saddam had nothing to do with 9-11
We do know that.

3. I'll Tell You What I Know
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 10:31 AM by GiovanniC
When you and I were glued to our televisions, frantically calling family and friends, in total and complete shock and disbelief, our "fearless leader" was having an elementary school teacher read him a story about a little girl who really really hoped her dad would let her keep her troublemaking pet goat.

That's what I know.

4. What we know is most aren't curious in the slightest over the inexplicable
events of that day nor the events leading up to and surrounding that day.

5. The single thing that has always made me suspicious
It was literally hours after the buildings fell; the FBI released names and pictures of the hijackers.

Either that was some damn fine police work that we haven't seen before or since, or 9/11 wasn't that much of a surprise.

6. At this point
I think it's more important to figure out a way to make sure this doesn't happen again. Everything done in response to 9/11 has not lessened our chances of being attacked again one bit.

This administration and future Republican administrations will continue to spout the same lies we've been hearing. Hopefully someday we'll learn the truth but until that time comes let set forth to devise a plan to avoid the next 9/11.

7. What Have We Learned From It?
Whenever some chickenhawk sqwaks 9/11, I ask "are we safer today than then". Some dare to say we were "naive" and blame the evil Clenis for the attack, but then I ask the question again. I focus on the NOW not the then. Is this country safer from another 9/11 attack today? What have we learned?

Try this on a wingnut friend and see what type of response you get. If that person hasn't boggled your mind yet, this should do the trick.

Since none of the principals of this event have never been called to justice...not even apprehended (put your tin foil hat names here), how can one know when you haven't heard directly from those who were involved. Some we'll never hear from, but others we can but still won't. These secrets run too deep and too much time has past to ever give a satisfactory answer.

Next question is have we yet understood the fear of 9/11? Who generates it? Who benefits from it? Another time another thread...

9. we know almost nothing about what happened
an entire industry has erupted blowing smoke, waving hands, regurgitating conjecture, spewing irrelevant facts . . .

at it's core, the elaborate government story is theology, not history.

11. personally, there are three things that I know . . .
to a high degree of certainty . . . high enough to satisfy myself, anyhow . . .

1. Those planes did not cause the Twin Towers to collapse;

2. Something hit the Pentagon, but it wasn't a jetliner; and

3. That plane in Pennsylvania exploded before it hit the ground.

I understand that others will disagree with one, two, or all three of these conclusions, and that's fine . . . for me, however, these are absolute truths that will never be proven wrong . . . because they can't be . . .
